Never used one, but I'll often throw a tarp in the bed when hauling stuff like that. I have a HF tarp with the rope around edge that you can cinch up to contain loose loads. Sounds like a good excuse to get a kei dump truck, or even better a scissor lift dump truck. I've been keeping my eyes out for a good one, but it seems they usually are high milage, no AC, and used hard. Just for reference, a cubic foot of gravel weighs about a hundred pounds, a five gallon bucket weighs about 70lbs, so I probably wouldn't exceed 7-8 cubic feet or 11 five gallon buckets of gravel in a standard kei truck

I just ordered the HF one and will post a review when I try it out. I think the advantage to me will be I can dump enough to fill some areas along our driveway with gravel then move to another spot to dump some more.

Great, I'm curious to know if it can clamp and strap onto the Sambar's tiny tailgate. Would love to get one if so.

I will let you know when I get it.
Just got back from a run across the Dragon US129. Here she is parked next to the Tree Of Shame at Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort. I haven't added anything to it in my over 21 years of riding the Dragon, Knock On Wood!.

Making progress on the gravel unloader. Hope to try it out next week when the rock pit is open.
The tailgate will be lowered when unloading the gravel.

I installed a tool box today and it is already full.

Might install a different type one on the other side.

That's cool. I wasn't sure if those side boxes fit the 5th gen Sambars. I thought they were made for 6th gen. Was the installation straightforward?

Fairly simple install but the instructions are written in Japanese.
I am looking for another one from a different source for the other side.

They do indeed. The 5th and 6th gens are similar enough that they bolt straight on with no modifications. One of the brackets attaches directly to the battery box, reusing the bolts that hold that on. The other slips around the frame and is held with a "set-screw".

Mounting one to the other side will be a little challenging for two reasons. First, there is no battery box to attach to, so some other mounting mechanism will need to be made. Secondly, the spare tire exists in the space that this would go, so either you would need to find another spot for it, or forgo having a spare tire.

    ^^^^^^^^
I looked at the other side and I agree there is no room for a tool box there as I want keep the spare.

I tried out the gravel unloader today and it worked pretty well. The truck weighted 1680 lbs empty and me not in it.

I told the guy I wanted 800 lbs of crusher run and the load he put on was 1160 lbs. The truck did ok with the load but next time I will stop him sooner.

    Back home with the load.

    Dumping went well .

Sorry for the poor photo. Almost unloaded.

I made a few changes to the unloader and will try again on Friday.

I am getting another carport for the Sambar and two trailers to keep them out of the sun and rain. Last one I covered it with log siding and it works just fine but is full.

I would not worry too much about going overweight by that much. I have done plenty of 1000+lbs loads with no issues. As long as your tires are up to the task, and do not go down any big mountains while loaded down, you should not have a problem.

Thanks for the info as I have had my Sambar for a short time. Luckily no big mountains to go down from the rock pit to our place here in WNC.
