HI! I have a 1991 Honda Acty HA4 4wd 5sp and can't figure out what my stalling issue is. The truck fires up amazing (always when cold) and will drive perfect A-B. But, when attempting to start it up (5-20) minutes after shut down; It will either start up run for 2 seconds then fail or just crank. Feathering the throttle can produce a ruff idle to limp it back. After about 10-15 minutes of continues driving the issue will self-resolve. I'm guessing it's some sort of vapor lock? The issue becomes more frequent around half a tank. The sub cooling fan doesn't cycle unless you remove the positive terminal and perch it on top the terminal. I sanded and dielectric greased every ground point I could find: 2 on the engine (driver side near PCV thing) One under the bed and the Main Fuze Contacts. I have also replaced: *Timing Belt *ICM * Distributor, Rotor, Cap *Ignition Coil *Ignition Coil Sensor *Spark Plugs + Wires *Rebuilt Carb (gaskets cleaned) *Fuel and Air Solenoid *Fuel Filter I'm stumped.
Welcome to the forums. Do us all a favor and put the make/modle/year of your truck in your signature (at least you stated in in the post and that is helpful). First off dielectric grease is not a conductor. If it gets between the pins or the grounding point it will cause problems. Not an Acty owner but I suspect your carb or fuel delivery is where the issue is. If it starts up cold fine then the choke is working fine and probably the ignition is good as well. After running and being hot, sounds like the choke is either misbehaving or fuel delivery is an issue. If it gets worse as the tank level goes down, start by checking that fuel flow and pressure is to the specs. I would guess the pressure should be between 2 - 3 psi and the flow should be approximately 20 gph at the carb. Also make sure the venting to the tank is working. If when you remove the cap and here a hiss thats a sign that either pressure is building or theres a vaccum on the tank. Use a piece of paper to determine which it is. Either way it could be the charcoal canister or something like that causing issues. I'm sure an Acty dude will come along and provide better details
Do you think this could be a idle jet issue? I dropped the tank and didn't notice anything to clog it. I also just found a different thread with seemingly the same issue! Here is the link to it and his video: https://minitrucktalk.com/threads/1995-ha4-stalling-issue-won’t-run-at-idle.25206/#post-139083 His video of the Issue: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/adp8....mov?rlkey=zkxyem7xq72s9pewurevvhzvt&e=1&dl=0 No idle unless throttle is applied
Update: Issue may be solved I've had a back and forth conversation with Kevin at Oh-Kei Garage since last year and he seems to have found the issue The part: Slow Cut Solenoid Carburetor Controller Part # 36050-PZ3-901 Oh-Kei video:
didn't know it had such a part, will research this on mine, and have a look for it in the service manual. and wiring manual. good to understand even more about my Acty. Thanks
The Control Box Was The Problem!!!!!! Needed to pull the dash for this. 2 bolts secure it and you may be able to get the fore bolt without pulling the dash but I highly doubt it. It needed the cleaning anyways.
That’s my truck he’s leaning against in that video. Plus Kevin is a great guy. My truck has never run better.
