Air conditioning Help!

I brought my "new" Subaru to the local dealer to have them take a look at it, make sure everything was A-OK, and also to see why the A/C wasn't working (maybe needed some refrigerant).

When I picked it up, they listed off all the little oil leaks/sweats that I expected. I asked about the A/C and they told me it didn't have a compressor!

After going through the service manual, I'm pretty sure it should have an A/C.
    • It has the A/C button to the left of the temp controls
    • It has the A/C control unit behind the glove box (wires plugged in)
    • It has a big gap in between the alternator and the supercharger with two hoses and an electrical cable ending in that area

Does anyone with a S/C A/C sambar have any pictures of the compressor (looking down through the bed access panel)?

I'll take some pictures tomorrow and upload them.

    Thanks.

Hmmm... A big gap between the alternator and supercharger. That's exactly where your a/c compressor should be located. I'd be interested to see your set up.
Here is what mine looks like.

Yep, those are the hoses there. Thanks for the fast reply!

I've attached some pictures showing the lack of compressor. Is the A/C radiator mounted horizontally under the bed, just forward of the spare tire?

compressor probably went so they yanked it out of there. ya prob gonna have to clean it up good before you can do any serious a/c work. not sure if they can tell if the condensers etc are any good without the system being complete.

No problem.;) Yes, that's where the a/c radiator is in my van.

This may be long shot because of the June 2010 date but... My heater does not work at all on the 1st 2nd 3rd speed and when i put on the a/c that fires up but nothing coming through the vents. I have looked around for the fuse and had them all out and they look fine. Anyone help ??

Jap, did you check if the fan gets 12v? by measuring with a powermeter?

    Hi
Dutchminitrucker i will check today and report back. I have decided to take out the dash and having a bit of a nightmare with it, all has come loose but there is somthing holding it in the center somewhere. Anyhow the sun is out today and I have fresh eyes :)

There will probably be a step resistor near the fan speed switch. They frequently have thermal fuses built on to them , which will kill the fan if the resistor gets to hot.

Hi Guys thanks for helping i have the dash off and it looks like this underneath. I am going to look in another post to see if i can find where the resistor may be located.
    1. There is power getting to the 3 speed switch.
    2. I have taken the switch apart and cleaned the contacts.

The resistors are sometimes on the motor.

    Just follow the wires.

They are also frequently hidden in the ducting. So, they have air flowing over them to cool them.

The resistor pack is above the fan motor on the upper-right side of the center box. In that picture, you can see the dash harness connector (white) dangling right next to the top vent.. it is directly behind that.
