ok, if it ran good and then didnt then dont turn screws. Its got water in carb or sometning else goin on. Is choke opening all the way when warm then close it some and hold to see if is ok then? Fuel supply enough? Let it get cold and see if runs ok for another 20 min or is it all the time bad now? Did it used to run ok and this just started? We need more info. tom

just started today. I dont believe the auto choke is operating corectly. could it be a clogged jet or sticking choke? Also noticed that its been sucking down a lot of fuel.

All of your symptoms can be traced back to a sticking choke caused by the coolant not flowing into the carb. ..the carb choke is operated by coolant temperature and if the coolant isn't flowing the carb. can't heat up and open the choke ...check the 2 coolant lines that run into the carb....unhook the 2 small coolant hoses that run in and out of the carb and blow them out.

Ok my carb has 3 hoses going to it..pulled all 3 and none of them flowed coolant...except when I pulledthe bottom hose a little fluid dripped out of the choke actuator. Not really sure what its called??had heat on high heat and still blowing cold. Maybe trapped air? Bad core. Plugged core? Flushed it out but maybe not correctly. I also saw in another post where you mention a bleed nipple but can't seem to find it? Thanks so much!!!

Put a garden hose in the radiator and let it run to keep it full and unhook heater hoses at the core, start engine and see if water is coming out of one of the hoses and then hook it up to the core and see if water comes out the other end of the core. Report back, lol. Just a thought, is your radiator getting warm after a while and is water flowing inside when you look through the filler cap hole when its up to temp? Your water pump might not be primed at all. Can you drive it for long time without it overheating?

Ha, call me stupid but I dont know where the heater core is..I guess the large coolant hoses that run behind the head are for oil cooler? Seems to overheat rather quickly

could clogged heater core keep coolant from getting to carb? Water pump prime? Core location ha!

a clogged heater core could cause choke issues ,but shouldn't..when the heater valve to the core is shut (all they way cold selected on the temp lever) the collant will still flow to the rest of the cooling system and carb. an air bubble in the cooling lines will cause all the above issues..the air needs to be bled from the system for coolant to circulate. Cooling system pdf attached.

So you think by getting air out of the system it will allow the choke to operate properly?

very possible..have you removed the carb intake hose to the air filter to see if the choke is opening or closing when warm/cold?

Yes and its not opening or closing. I can actuate it manually on the back of carb. I dont believe coolant is getting to the choke..

Where should I look for a clog or problem? I know you sent a pdf but I'm away from my big computer for awhile. Thanks!

Broke bleed nipple off in the manifold...%&*$#%!!!!!!! Any other way to bleed? Runs now but auto choke where the white toothed piece is hopping around loosly

Def no coolant getting to choke. Flushed all I know to flush

Ok, do you drive the truck or just let it warm up sitting still. It sounds to me that your water pump might not primed. After it warms up do you see water moving through radiator and is radiator hot on one hose and cooler on the other and does the radiator fan come on and off as it cools?

coolant doesnt appear to be flowing in the radiator. right now its just sitting on a flatbed trailer so Im not working in the dirt. Someone wired an aftermarket fan to the ignition so its constantly running. kinda loud in the cab... radiator could be plugged??? how do i prime the waterpump? I figured gravity would kick in? after being cold the truck will idle fine until warm and then shut off.

Ok, now were getting somewhere. Unhook radiator fan, unhook the heater hose at the heater that goes back to the water pump and force water into heater hose until water comes out of radiator and the heater core. Hold garden hose on the heater hose and start engine and you should see water coming out of the heater core faster than before you started engine. If it does then stop engine and refill and then hook hose up trying not to drain system. Put hose in radiator to keep full and start engine and water should go through the heater hose or core and begin to warm up in few minutes. If it does then stop engine and refill. Heater should get warm before radiator and then radiator too. When you see all is warm hook up radiator fan. Water wont flow in top of radiator until thermostat is satisfied if you have one installed. NOTE: my midget 2 has an ON OFF valve in the heater hose that is clearly marked ON OFF, check to see if you have one too. Others can help you with this question. tom

Please excuse my ignorance but on off switch for what??flushed both hoses that go toward the front of the truck in either direction. I assume the heater core is under the dash??? Also how do I know if I have a thermostat? My temp guage inside used to get near halfway but now barely moves...maybe the sensor is dirty due to flushing? Sorry for all the dumb question!!!!

not an on off switch but a valve under the dash to turn the heater core on or off. Yours probably doesn't have one. You have to unhook the heater hose from the heater core under the dash and that goes to the front, pulley side of the engine and force water into it until water comes out the heater core where you unhooked the hose. The wrong heater hose is the one that goes to the back of the engine where the thermostat is by the distributor. When you have no more bubbles then hook hose back up and start engine and feel heater hoses for few minutes to see if water is circulating. After engine warms up enough water will circulate through radiator and it will get warm, when it does all is well and hook fan back up. Make sure the radiator stays full.

ok getting ready to pull all my hair out or drive this thing in the river!!! it is still running and idling fine when first started and I actually believe the choke to be operating correctly, as long as I'm watching it.... Seems to be closed when cold and slowly open as warming. But....when I run it wide open in high gear soon after initial startup and come to a stop, it will idle extremely high. I adjust the mixture screw until it idles better and then continue driving normally but then come to a stop and will not idle. Something has got to be going on with the choke. Also still quickly sucking fuel.

Is everything lubed up and moving freely? sounds like something is sticking.

Ok, heres my thought, have you unscrewed the jet/coil on the right side of the carb by the float bowl or taken off the cover of the float bowl?

Something may be sticking..the hose that supplies the auto choke comes from the heater core???is that correct? When I disconnect the hose leading into the carb and let the engine warm, coolant slowly begins to sputter through

i dont think coolant is flowing through choke properly. The supply line to the choke seems to get high in pressure while the line exiting the bottom barely sputters coolant?:frustration:

sounds like it could be clogged...run a pipe cleaner in it to hog it out

run a pipe cleaner into the auto choke? The plunger at the bottom of the choke never appears to extend on its own but i can take a screwdriver and push it down and truck will rev.

Any thoughts on my last comment??? Also now truck smokes bad and has what I believe to be unburned fuel coming out of exhaust. Got to get this thing running!

No into the coolant pipe into it...you said coolant wasn't flowing into it

Flows into it fine but not though it. Like the mechanism is hung up.
