Hello, I recently changed the transfer case fluid for my 96 Daihatsu Atrai S130V. It is the EFI engine with 4wd and automatic transmission with the push button transfer case. I have the original owners manual and I swear it translates to automatic transmission fluid for the transfer case, but when I drained it was definitely gear oil in it. Does anyone know if I am wrong or if the previous owner put the wrong fluid in it? I know with the manual transmission trucks and the two speed transfer cases it would be gear oil but it seems like this is different. Thank you for your help. I put the ATF in it and no issues yet but I really haven’t let the transfer case be worked hard since the fluid change. Thank you.

it should work, but may leak past seals. it will protect the gears and bearings, but the lower viscosity may result in leaks.
