    Hello,

I have a 1991 Suzuki Carry that failed its out of province inspection (Alberta, Canada). Specifically I'm looking for a a replacement left lower ball joint. Has anybody had to replace one? Does anything local fit? i.e. a 1991 Suzuki Samurai?

If not who is good (and quick) for parts? I also have to rebuild the left rear brake cylinder but I'm going to throw that into a separate post to make it easier for others to find.

    Thanks,
    Stan

As you have probably seen, the ball joints are welded in the lower control arm.I was told by Keith at XXXroadsimports that he could get a replacement bolt-in ball joint, but the old one would require a bit of effort to cut out.

Yeah, most old North American cars I have worked on had riveted ball joints that you would hack off and replace with bolt on ones. Which would be ideal for my current situation. I was quoted about 195 CAD plus shipping to replace the entire lower control arm. I will see what I can find for local replacements and post back.

    Stan,
have you tried some of the sponsors on this website? Click on the banners at the top of the page. Mustang and Minitruck.ca are good places to start. There are many more and Very Excellent parts places in Canada and AB/BC.
Also get a second opinion on your Out of Province. I had to as the first place wanted to change almost everything on the truck! The second place, had no problem with the truck other than some simple little items.

i recently replace both the control arms of my truck, its about $80 each. maybe i can help you get these parts and you just have to shoulder the shipping cost from the philippines.

$80 bucks plus shipping would be nice, as long as shipping wasn't a 100 dollars each :). I picked up the lower control arms from a retailer out in BC for more than I think they are worth but I was in a bind, next time I will shop around more. They should be here by the end of the week so I can replace them this weekend and get the out of province inspection over with.

Once I get the replacements I will run them past a buddy of mine who is a fabricator to see what he can do, if anything, about hacking off the old ball joint and attaching a replacement one. I didn't want to take it off before I had the replacements. I'm told many other people have tried but I want to see for myself.

    tubular control arms

i was thinking about making tubular control arms and converting to heim joints like used on sand rails are readily available at most offroad shops here in Arizona ,but i was also thinking of bulding a long travel set up with coil-overs for the front and 4 link rear

let me know how your succes on rebuilding the brake cylinder
i came accross the same problem also with leaking brake cylinder
I agree with Geo on the opinion, althought you have to be carefull cuz the the inspection shops do have to diclose all info in the event something happens.
I'm currently looking for cylinders so i'll update you if i fing something

I didn't get a second opinion as the inspection shop was correct. It was leaking. I was impressed that they found it. They would have had to remove the wheel, brake drum and pull the rubber back to find it. I'm sure I could have taken it somewhere else and had it pass but that doesn't stop the leak.

Check out 1991 Suzuki Carry Brake Cylinder Rebuild Kit for what I found about the cylinder.
