I just bought a 1990 MMC 550CC with a Supercharger. This is the only mini truck I have ever driven so I'm not sure how or even IF the supercharger is working. Is there anyway to tell for sure? I searched the site but couldn't come up with anything on superchargers on a Mitsubishi MMC. I did see a couple post about other brands of trucks that say they have a supercharger light that comes on when under power but my MMC has no supercharger dashlight. Any Info on how to tell if it is working? Also, how do these 550cc with superchargers compare to the 660cc engines w/out superchargers????

Mini4WD, Can't help with determining if your Supercharger is working or not. But, I can give you a comparison. Here are engine specs for 1990 Mitsu Minicab:

    3G81 (550cc) 3cyl OHCS Charger:

    33.83KW @6000rpm = 45.37hp -- 58.84N-m @4000rpm = 43.4 ft-lb torque

    3G83 (660cc) 3cyl OHC:

    27.95KW @5500rpm = 37.48hp -- 51.98N-m @4500rpm = 38.33 ft-lb torque

    3G81 (550cc) 3cyl OHC (No Supercharger):

    22.07KW @5500rpm = 29.60hp -- 43.15N-m @4000rpm = 31.82 ft-lb torque

    Not bad, eh?......later, slim

Well a fool proof way to see if your SC is working is to hook up a boost gauge. You should have SOME sort of vacuum line coming off the intake manifold (post charger) that you can T into. Boost gauges are relatively cheap and easy to hook up. If you're making positive pressure, you're boostin'! :D

take the belt off the charger, run it around the block and see if it feels like a dog. if it feels like it did with the belt on it's not working
