Hi all, It's been quite awhile since I was here - so long in fact that I cannot remember any of my old login/Uname etc. Anyhow, I have my 87 S81P back in my possession (it was away at a hunting camp for the last 12 years - and saw little looking after by friends/relatives AND myself). In that time, both headlight doors/bezels have been smashed off as well as both door mirrors while beating about the north woods. I'm trying to source replacements and its a nightmare. It has occurred to me that its maybe possible to swap in headlight assembly's from S83's or similar and wanted to see if anyone has attempted this. I fully understand that the actual lamp will be squared rather than round etc. and I don't care about it being historically accurate as much as I care for having working turn signals/running lights and that I don't have big voids where those parts should be. I found one source for used S81P headlight door/bezel and lights (Be Forward parts) and they want me to mortgage my house just for shipping and then I have no idea what the tariffs will lump on top of that. I have found far more S83 sets around here in the states and would really like to know if anyone has done this swap. Many thanks to anyone who has some insight.
I actually have the headlights and the bezels out of my s83p. I'm putting some new LED headlights in. I'd be willing to get some measurements for you if PM me some pictures of what you want measured and I can do that for you Also, look into Yahoo auctions. I actually bought a set of wheels through there and had a company called mufreight who is bringing those Wheels in to the states at the end of March 18th February
Check out https://500yenshop.com. They front end Yahoo and Yahoo auctions in japan and then bundle up your purchases into packages and ship for reasonable fees. I've used them for a bunch of stuff.
i found a company MU-freight. They seem to be good and fair. I bought a set of wheels through the auctions and they are bringing them to the states for me
Many thanks but after talking to another owner it appears that I should go with the original s81P design and not customize. I appreciate the offer to help, and sorry for the long delay, I thought this browser window would auto-update and I didnt see this until I reopened it.
This is good stuf That good stuff! Thanks alot! I'm looking into this right away - possibly the best route to avoid massive import/shipping costs.
