Unhook everything, hoses/wires, unhook axles from trans, drop entire engine cradle, before putting it back replace the clutch.
the timing could be off, or bent valves, pull valve cover and check intake valves for tightness. make sure timing marks are lined up
check for fuel, fire and it may be tight intake valves the daihatsus are bad about valves getting tight. may do a compression check to verify this

looks like a dd51t which could be from 90-98ish. look for blue tag under drivers seatbealt behind seat
Make sure the choke is opening up after it gets warm. If it is I would adjust the idle. It should have a warm idle adjustment and a cold idle...

I think you can use a carb off of an s81 or s83. The two will have more vacume hookups but they will not have a speed limmiter on it like yours...
