Has anyone ever put a five speed with EL to a high/lo transfer case that originally had a four speed attached?
Yes it is possible but remember 5 speed trannys are longer than 4 sp so you need a shorter shaft connecting the rear differential. Source- i have a neighbor who tried swapping.
Moral of the story if you find a transmission be sure to get the driveshaft that goes with it. If you don't know anyone with a lathe and welder it can get more expensive that it's worth to pay somebody to shorten it. I'm not sure if the tranny mounts are the same. If they are different it will put us in even more uncertain waters.
You may be in for more than bargained for. If the 5sp is longer, the T Case will be to the rear of its present position, then you will need a shorter rear driveshaft and a longer front driveshaft. Fred
