I've been lurking on the net for a couple years and finally pulled the trigger and bought this 1990 KS4 with 7995 miles on it. I'm in Denver at thought the altitude might take its toll, but the little truck runs great and screams right on up to 105 clicks. It came with an owners manual in strictly Japanese so just the pics don't tell me much. I freaked out that there was NO HEAT until I read how to use the controls. The damper still needs adjusted to get a little more defrost volume out of the vents.
    1. I want to install some slightly larger more aggressive wheels and tires...so who sells the best 2" Kit? I searched the files and CrossFit seems out of buisness..?
    2. When you raise the passenger seat and open the access lid to the Radiator and Windshield Fluid ...in between is a box bracket that looks like it would hold a second battery..??? What is that bracket box down there??
    3. Over on the passenger side just under the dash is a "Red cylindrical thing in a bracket...and its removable.
Is this some sort of Road Flare..?? How does it work..? Are there batteries in it..?
    4. I want to purchase an English Owners Manual...and Service Manual. Suggestions?
    5. The Seats were pretty dirty and and I just about scrubbed the stitching off trying to get them clean. Is it possible to purchase original seat covers...they look like they'd be pretty easy to install if ai could get them.
    6. I'm happy with 5-30W Mobile 1 in my other vehicles...any reason to not use it in this??
    7. I've searched the threads and found info on Oil and Air Filters.
    8. Any suggestions on what else I should do to a unit that is 26 years old with so few miles. The engine, frame, and sheet metal all look great with no rust or corrosion anywhere. Just the soiled seats from being used as a mechanics yard vehicle.
Thank you Gents for your time and advice.

    1. I'd be careful about installing larger tires if you're still interested in highway driving, the truck doesn't have a lot of spare torque to spin larger wheels at speed. Subaru's are also pretty tricky to lift, from what I've heard (though not impossible).
    2. I think that bracket is used for a battery in certain configurations, and they just put it in all the models to save money.
    3. Yep, that's a road flare. I think that's a Japanese requirement. It's probably chemical, and should light like a match. http://www.wikihow.com/Light-a-Road-Flare
    4. There are manuals around for purchase, http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/tkojames
    5. Maybe?
    6. 5W-30 is probably fine to use for Colorado.

    8. Maybe check to see if there are any inspection stickers on the truck to indicate that the truck isn't actual 107 995 km...they only have a 5 digit odometer, and you might get it to roll over back to 0 (i.e. mine says 45 000, but it actually 145 000).

Did you get this registered in CO without an issue (since it's > 25 years old?)
