If someone could please post the part number for the starter for this vehicle or any other vehicle with the EB (550cc) motor I would greatly appreciate it. I cannot get it rebuilt without something to go by and the tag on my starter is completely worn off. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the droid you're looking for:

Available here cheap if the rebuild doesn't work out... shipping hurts a little because of the weight though.

Lemme know if that's it, if not I can dig around a little more.

Thanks a million, I have been to the end of the Internet and back. The tag on my starter is literally shiny silver with no discernible markings. That is exactly the droid I am looking for.

    Hey man,
I took that number to my rebuilder and he couldn't get an armature which was actually the problem. I finally just bit the bullet and bought one from a vendor for $295.00, I was going to by a Charade starter and swap the noses but no auto parts store around here can get one. At least this will get it back up and running without having to pull start it all the time.

Could have sent you a good set of guts for less than half that... owell. At least you got 'er going.

That you can pull-start these is cool too... done many times on my 73 Jimny. :)

FWIW: That starter, good used and complete is about $40 used here, plus +/- $120 to get it to your door on an airplane.

    Next time Grasshopper.

I wish I had the time to wait as our Hijet is an integral part of our farming operation and my wife's main ride. To be honest I did not want to impose on you. But I may in the future because it seems the people who sell parts aftermarket seem to know they have a niche market and an almost constant demand so they price gouge. Yep having something again old school enough to pull start is pretty cool. Like both of the mirror were broke off of my truck when I got it and a vendor charges $95 per mirror? That's insane. Anyway, I digress. I appreciate all your help.
    Regards,
    Tony

As a retired American living in the Philippines, I find it hard to get any of the so-called parts houses here to order anything and there is no dealer where I am. I deal directly with "jp-carparts.com". They are very easy to deal with and ship promptly to anywhere in the world, just FYI.

FWIW, I think the 88 Hijet is the same as my 92 is body wise... Try searching Piaggio Porter on ebay. I found a seller out of Italy selling on there that had mirrors for like $25-35 plus shipping... Shipping is pretty reasonable and he does combine shipping costs.

Aye... I see this gouging on parts and do not like... these are not Merc 600's ffs...

    Thinking on these things.

    These the mirrors you need?

Perhaps, mine were a lot smaller and less well constructed. Would you be able to measure the mount surface for me?
    Thanks,
    Tony

This thread may be old but best information I have found to this point on finding a starter. I have a 1992 hijet jumbo s81, with eb motor, these starters are almost impossible to find, anyone have a good lead or maybe an accurate cross reference. Appreciate any info someone can give me

used ones check with beforward https://autoparts.beforward.jp/search/DAIHATSU/HIJET/Electrical-Parts/Starters/
    DIY repair example https://www.instructables.com/Starter-Motor-Repair/
or find a local shop which is specialized in starter repairs

I repaired my BMW V12 Bosch starter motor DIY with parts from a used Mercedes Benz starter, found out that both use the same Bosch starter. On my 1988 model the innards (gears) were still made of plastic, the newer version was made of cast iron, lasts now already 12 years
plenty of pics from that repair http://e32b12.blogspot.com/search/label/Starter
often the solenoid is dirty, clean that one too, see my pics above

It is a Denso. See if you can find a local rebuilder who can tackle it. It is kind of like putting together legos. Grab the right ones and they just fit. The drive motor for my bed hydraulics, is a Denso. I assumed that I couldn’t get parts for it, and spent an inordinate amount of time getting the rust off of the internal parts like the brush holders and the springs.

Only after I got it put back together did I do a web search, and discover that I could have bought all the parts I fussed over.

Appreciate the replies, I bought myself some time on mine, the braided wire from the solenoid was toast, so I was able to drill and tap the plate inside the starter that hold the brushes, had another cable from another and made the connection...works, lol, but I still plan on getting a replacement on hand.
