Catalytic converter?

Discussion in 'Daihatsu Hi jet' started by CobequidTrails, Jul 29, 2013.

  1. I have been getting a light on the dash the last couple of days that looks like a cat/muffler with heat symbols (top left light)... if i remove the catalytic converter, does the o2 sensor need to be reinstalled or is there a bypass fix so i don't get the dash light? I am also experiencing lower power which makes me think the cat. is the problem and needs to be removed.

    Thanx...

You are correct that the cat is plugged and restricting exhaust flow. If you ground the 02 sensor to the frame (or any ground) the light should go out. Good luck, Ralph in Winnipeg.

  3. Thanx Ralph... 'preciate it. :)

  4. Taking it into a shop tomorrow. They looked at it today and instead of trying to fab a pipe to replace the cat, they are going to cut out the bottom (or side) and beat the guts out of it. The exhaust on these things is convoluted to say the least, so keeping the same pieces intact seems like the best option for now.

Just a question to those that re-piped there S110, what diameter did you run and was it the same from front to back or was there some expansion chambers added in? What is necessary to keep? Also, what is a good free flowing muffler? Can a motorcycle muffler be used?

    Thanx...

  5. Cat is gutted and welded back up... much better. :)

Ralf, when you said to ground the sensor, was that permanently or just to reset the light? Will the sensor work properly without the cat present?

The light on the dash is for "exhaust temp" can be triggered by a clogged cat but is only there to warn you the exhaust is too hot..all vehicles sold in Japan are required to have the exhaust temp. light..the sensor should stop glowing once the exhaust restriction is gone..it may just be old and worn out as well, and as Ralph stated, grounding the sensor wire will turn it off.
