I finished my skid plate for my 2003 carry. There was no protection under the truck so I made my own. It's 3/16 thick and six feet long.

I had a 3x3 aluminum section made to go on top of my headache rack.
Should stop long lumber from sliding around up there.

I also added an extra 2 1/2" of rubber fender lips on the 2 front fenders.
Keep some of that horrible salt spray down

I got the Distributor put back on and after turning the key on and off a few times for the pump to get gas up to the carb after sitting almost two weeks fire up and ran ok not perfect but time is close enough to not notice while warming up but a little off once warm. Carb needs retuned too but that's for another day and another knuckle to be busted. Is it just me or does anyone else feel like every time you work on something you end up busting a knuckle or cut a finger or something?

Is that some kind of special wood that you worked and treated to make it look so nice then assembled on the top rail? I really like that idea.

 

Ok befor work I took a closer look at the rear end it is a little rusty here and there just starting to rust what kind of paint would be recommended to reprint or or put another coat on it after I use some sandpaper to touch it up?? I didn't think spray paint would do it so I figured I would ask

Idk if that would hold to the heat never felt how hot the rearend gets never had a need to lol but yea that very well could do the job I guess

 

I wouldn't imagine it would get to hot otherwise it would seize up I'm sure you can hold your hand on it as long as you'd like

 

Yea true never thought about it really never had a need to but yea I might just try that sand the rust off scruff it all up a bit and bed liner it

 

I've used rustoleum in the spray can with good results my skid plates and trailer hitch on my 4runner is painted with bedliner. If you paint and let it dry about a week without messing with it you'll never be able to get it off just make sure to do the prep work good and it'll look really good

 

Found a couple of threads on front brake pads. Since I'm way down in South Tx. I'm not finding parts for my '91 ACTY. So I took blakkmoon's advice and ordered a set of '84 Honda Civic front pads. $16.45 at O'riley's. Put them in a vise and trimed them down with my 4" Makita grinder with a cut off wheel. Put them on today and they seem to work O.K.

Now can someone direct me to some cheap rear brake shoes for this '91??? Thanks, Joe.

 

So guess what I found out today. Yes the rear axles have the same spline bearings are the same I double checked twice. Only difference I found was the middle of the axle there was a 2 mm difference but I'm guessing its cuz the locking diff. Or it was a rear end from a dump mini but for the time being I don't really see what that would keep me from swapping in the ones I have beings the lug pattering. And before someone says if you get in a bind u could snap an axle beings they r a little small if u have it locked in yes I know I could but I don't think I will any time soon. But any input is still welcome

It makes those busted knuckles feel a whole lot better when things fall together like that doesn't it.

 

How did I know someone would say that :sly: but yes it does make it worth it ever time. Ill be off to find the vacuum actuators or what ever u want to call them in a few has anyone ever had to replace them or have any clue if I was to buy new a part number? The vac lines from the rear end have a large rubber hose and metal end with threads on the inside ill prolly just take on with me to make sure it will fit. Be trying to get the switch and some wires and a metal vacuum/ brake line and a few other things thanks for you help guys

 

You can use the 4x4 actuators for a Ford F150, 97-04 will work. But u will need the 2 wire plug to splice in. Or you can use a EGR purge solenoid. Also a vacuum solenoid for a Mazda B2000 will work. it has 2 male ends on it. Just need to put 2 female ends on your wires. These solenoids will also work for the front axle actuator. Just something else you can get local and not have to wait on UPS.

 

Didn't really do anything to it but I used it to plow today prolly two and a half inches maybe three. Plowed better this time add 60 more pounds to the bed all the way in the back total weight in the bed was 100 ish. Might need to be around 150 to be perfect. Still going to change the angle of the blade when I can not today thou. Little to winter out to be messing with it today. I also found three lug nuts loose on the same tire :frustration: idk how or why. Tightened them back up.

 

Im going to wrap all mine up in a "what did i do to my truck this weekend" thing. I fixed and exhaust leak, re routed the rear tail pipe so i could do some more work. Moved the propane tank from the "roll bar" to down under the bed behind the rear axle to try to help with weight distribution. I rewelded all the leaf spring mounts because the previous owner thought that only tack welding the out side was good enough. I also took it out for a romp in the woods to check everything out. I think i have a bit of a 4wd issue because 4x4 high doesnt seem to work quite right...but 4x4 low does great. Might be the switch or it could be the actuator or possibly a vacuum leak...not real sure yet just need to look at it when i get some time.

Next projects that are lined up are....finish the propane tank move (hinge the back of the bed). Bumpers front and rear with 2" receivers in both. Winch on the front. Seats in the bed for my kids. Clean up the inside and put a cd player in it with some better speakers. Get the snow plow mounted up for next years snow. Gun racks/cases on the roll bar. Bodywork and paint/wrap the truck

 

Replaced about 4 foot of pin hole leaks in steel radiator lines (1 1/8 hose is not easy to find) with rubber hose I found at marine shop that has wire in it. Next project is to make a new exhaust.

 

over the last week i have
1. built new and better lift shackles (the previous owner thought sheet metal was good enough)
2. re upholstered my seats
3. finished my propane tank relocation by putting the bed "door" back on with flush mounted hinges

In reply to WERASE643 post about the paint.........I have painted many trucks and a few cars with heavy industrial paint. Its great stuff. I mix it 1/3 thinner, 1/3 metheletholkeytone, 1/3 paint. The m.e.k. Speeds up the drying time considerably as well as helps to make a nice shine. Sometimes I will use 2/3 m.e.k. So I can put more cotes on. Dries almost as fast as rattle can that way and doesn't stay tacky for a week after painting
