For now. Mine is coming in 3-4 weeks. It's a cargo model with an enclosed box in the back. Can't wait

Darkhorse, I love the picture :) Did you repaint the Midget? Is it hard to get parts for it in UK?

Thank you kindly, When I purchased it in May last year it was immaculate turquoise green colour. Not very me as I like ratty looking things that have been abused! The result is from numerous satin black rattle cans.
Parts for these are simply not available, most of the Midgets imn the UK are pickups used either for advertising local businesses or at race circuits as support trucks, so damaged or dismantled ones don't turn up. However they do share a couple (only) of parts with the Hijet which are very common.

Hi Iron Stalin, it is simpliy a case of prying it open with a large screwdriver or similar. Mine was seriously tight too.
If you break anything I have a spare.

jokerio, very nice. looks like it has a manual transmission. how is it with opposite shifting, plus almost no leg room when shifting? what kind of tires did you put on 12" rims and by the way where did you find the rims and tires? i had hard time looking for a set. one more thing, if you don't mind, how did you bring it to the States? Are there rules regarding Japanese imports? Could you please expand a little :( . Thanks

That is really sweet! Planning on getting a p/u next, where abouts in Cali are you based? I spent a fair time in Yucca Valley working and your scenery pics look like some places nearby.

Here is my 1997 Daihatsu Midget. I thought I liked my Subaru Domingo until I drove the Midget.

    Darkhorse,

What kind of tranny does your Midget have? Mine is Auto. Man it's loud, but I am getting used to it. Trunk space is just perfect for my hand tools. By the way, could you tell me please where is the port for topping up ATF? I see the ATF dip stick but can't figure our how to top up new ATF. Thank you

    Not familiar with the type, but;

It's pretty standard for ATF, to "top, or fill" via the "stick-tube".

Just get a funnel small enough to sit in the tube, and pour it in.

Should be once every twenty-four months. That's why it's simple, and has no AUX port.

Isimply adore your wheels and mirrors, makes it look even more fun.
I remember when I first drove it I thought there was a problem with the autobox only having 3 gears and the rear axle whining like it's doing 400
Soon figured out thats how they're built!.
Putting the mad triple pipes on made the axle noise fade though. :D

Darkhorse, how did you install the triple pipes? do you have a picture of the contraption? I think the noise is coming from the final drive more than from the engine. I guess even lining up the bad should reduce it?

Made them myself, shall get some images for you. Nothing terribly complex

Here is a couple of images for you Iron, the most complex part was making the collector for the 3 outlets. [IMG]

I originally removed the cat but it was just too noisy so put it back in across from the new silencer.

very innovative :D . did you get a significant difference in noise before and after triple pipe installation? one good thing about Midget is a plenty of room underneath, comparing to my other Japanese import Subaru Domingo.

Yeah! substantially more noise but it's better than listening to the diff noise. :D
