Hello, Im new here and just bought a 1991 Carry with 550cc eng. ,40,000km with 4 spd trans and a locking rear axle!
Did I get the wrong truck ?
So My bro in-law owns a honda motor cyl shop and deals with Camoplast tracks ... he phoned to order my tracks and was told they don't build tracks for mini trucks????
So then what is this ? I found this pic of a very fine looking truck on this site ,I hope the party that owns it does not mine me showing it off!
I'd like mine to look similar ! These are Camoplast make
    http://www.minitrucktalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4593&d=1288106133

    So could some one help me with info on ;
    - what model number are these tracks ? (yes, i see the UTV04s)but what is the part number?
    - did they need to be modified (my buddy is a machinist)?(bolt pattern on my truck 4x114.2 x 12 unless I measured wrong?
    - what sprocket was used with the trans (- was it a 4 or 5 spd truck, does that matter)
from the little bit I have found on the net - it sounds like I need wheel adapters is this so?
Where do you get these for a fare price?
And something about under guards to protect the fenders??? what is that about?
I got a quote from Mattracks who make a very heavy set of tracks ,but was told there too heavy for the mini truck and take alot of power to operate...any comments ??? $8771.00 for everything needed to mount them on the 91 Carry!
Camoplast tracks alone are about $3500.00 I'm told, but then you need the adapters etc so how much is that set up?
Thank you ahead of time for your help and or just taking the time to read my long winded message!
    :)

The only thing I dont like about the camoplast is they dont have an internal suspention system like the mattracks I bought a set of camo plast and sold them after 1 month and bout the mattracks much happier and huge diff in the ride mini truck awesome.jpg If you call mattracks they will work with you to make certain they are the right tracks. They are more money but deff worth the investment. If you have any questions pls feel free to contact me my name is steve.

    thanks Steve,
I don't might spending money when there is good value and it makes since...but from the little that I'm finding
Mattrack wants 3 times the price of the Camo plast that is no small differants?:(
and then wants another large chuck for all the adapters? over 10k wholy cow!
The camoplast tracks only are 4k (sorry not sure if it's ok to add prices - but that is huge in my books)
First things first the Mattrack looks the part, very well built ,but very heavy - I'm trying to stay on the light side so I can stay on top of the snow .
do you know what adapters are needed?
Or do you know the gear ratio of the driver gear.
I could end up with mattracks yet if they turn out to be the best system ,but man that is a huge dollar difference.
Any one else able to help with info like what camplast model fits the Carry or what drive ratio?
Thank you for all and any info it sure helps to deciding what to go with!

I am surprised you are getting quoted that I bought mine through mattracks and only paid 5200.00 for the entire set up with adapters. If I were you I would research a few other dealers in your area. I am sure you bro in law is going to get you the best price on the camoplast. I am just telling you from experience and owning a set the camoplast have no internal suspension system for the tracks themselves. Also the set I had I was real hard to grease the rollers and I was not fond of how you had to weld adapters to your axel housings and front control arms to make sure the tracks did not move. You have to do very little fabrication for the Mattracks I am sure there are people that feel diff then I do and I am not putting down there trucks or accessories . Again I am just telling you from my experience when you put this kind of money into the truck you want to make sure that it does not affect the truck and wear parts cause of such a hard ride. Pls let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Oh please don't think I disagree with you but I talked to Mirin at Mattracks 218-436-7000!
I beleave he's the designer and he quoted $8771.00 for the tracks only the best of quality I'm sure they look great from the pictures I saw.
He then quoted $645.00 plus GST for every thing needed to mount them to a Carry!
My quote on Camoplast is $3500.00 but then need adapters?
I'd pay $5200.00 for every thing for the Mattrack ...$1500.00 more for real greasable bearings and steel frame as to tubing!
There would be both people; to save that amount ,but me - I would pass the $1500.00 for the heavier quality! Longer life I would think!
    Now what do they weigh???

From most reviews I have read on both these tracks the camo plast have the best flotation on snow and soft terrain in a utv sxs application. Just my 2 cents.

    So, I'm hearing;
    Mattracks and camoplast
No one has said anything about "JDT" tracks
    Any comments ???

TJD from what I hear are just bhind camoplast but not by much. They have the advantages of having the less speed reduction on the new models and they have a heavy duty version wich if used 4 season could prove usefull. Most people around my town use tjd because we have a dealer I have heard no complaints.

Thx Wedge for correcting my spelling - I wouldn't want the wrong info out there.
So you have seen them in use ?
I have a dealer here in Penticton ,BC also (soon to be family),I think I may just do a little more digging before deciding.
Does anyone know if TJD makes tracks for the mini truck or do they only make them for ATV /UTV???
Anyone have a set? What is the gear ratio? (How many teeth on the sprocket that drive the track?)
What model # did you buy to fit your truck OR what mods did you have to do to get them to fit your truck?
    How do you like them?

It's not really a big deal, what I don't get is the desire for "new".
In 5 minutes I found a set of TJD Xgen's for $1000 cash on my local kagiigii, craigs.

I'm not a winter guy though.

There is a lot that could be wrong with used and you don't know till they arrive !
I live in BC so shipping add's up from Ontario , but i could be interested in the ones you found for a grand!

    Heh, heh..gone in 12 hours..

    Deal's a deal

You could fix a lot wrong on a used set with the extra 5grand..

Yes going used is okay to me if I can see them in person. Buying new is more for the times you need something special or rare in the used market. Don't get caught buying atv units instead of utv sxs models!

I'd agree with that. I'm not really up on the TJD stuff, per say.
I know everything about the Tatou UTV 4s system, and would recommend that.
Gonna be a while before you could find used on those though.

Although, I have seen lot's of used adds for "TJD" off UTV's....

It's like buying a mini for 15grand; would you? Not that you can't afford it, just that there would be no mods, and definitely no tearing-up of the shite.

see there you go ... I don't know what I'm looking for in the track world and that is why I ask a lotta questions on forums ...so I can learn what seems to work for every one (sometimes the best isn't always the answer!)
In my limited budget and limited knowledge Mattracks look the best for build and quality , but tatou by camoplast seems to be in my price range of what I can get my (family) hands on !
And they seem to be in more pictures and video's then Mattrack right now!
If buying for longevity Mattracks would totally be my answer, but this is a snow toy for me and this will get me out there!
I got a model number just today (thx rob@terikimports.com )model from camoplast for the Suzuki Carry #5000-25-0001-UTV4S
gearing tooth for the 1989 4 spd 17 teeth - if your a 5 spd you could go with a 15 tooth!
    I think that's how I heard it!
    Thank you for your help!

That's probly how you heard it. My opinion would be a little different though.
The real problem with the mattracks system is the nose design. It's flat and will tend to ride under any deep snow and power-bust through any road banks.
This differs greatly in design from most other units, including the newly designed Tatous. The nose rides, and drives, above the riding surface, at a set obstical "approach angle". But, the Mattracks have a greater sloping track design off of the drive gear. This is good; clears fenders much better than the others.
Then you talk about the gearing, tooth #. What you say is usually a good rule of thumb. Cu'z 4 has a hi/lo, the 5...no.
You plan on doing above 50kph with the tracks? or, do you plan on going through deep snow in the winter, and, swamps in the summer?
The least # of teeth will give the most torque, and, the best fender clearance.
Again, all not a huge deal. If you bolt a set of tracks onto the truck, you still have a SET OF TRACKS on the truck!!!

I have a set of Mattracks for my carry. I found that the tracks are to small to get the flotation in deeeep snow:frustration:. The Mattraks are vary well built and well worth the price. I found the 660 engine didn't have the power needed to turn these tracks at any real speed [over 20 mph]. The flotation is the thing I was unhappy with. You can get into trouble in deep snow 3' or more. I am have a machine shop making adaptors to fit the tracks to the Cj 5 axles I have under the truck know. With the Neon engine and trans I will have the power but the gear reduction will kill any speed. The pix of the Carry on the Mattrack web sight is my truck when I first got the track's.
