Air Filter Mod

Discussion in 'Daihatsu Hi jet' started by CobequidTrails, Jun 21, 2012.

  1. Just curious if anyone has retro-fitted a K&N air filter on their truck? If so, what size and what was involved in getting it to work?

A k&n filter is the last thing you want to put on a mini truck, their stock filter setups are already in a compromised location so they are subject to increased dirt as it is, combine that with a filter that increases flow thus increases dirt injested and your just begging for a rebuild.

  3. Perhaps rerouting the plumbing to a better location? I am just looking at any and all ways to squeeze a bit more power.

This is the K&N filter I found fit the best. K&N part # E-9242 Daihatsu S83P

  5. Thanx for the part number... did you do a relocation of the filter? And did you notice any noticeable difference in power?

I didn't change anything with the filter location. These trucks are superbly engineered and the K&N filter is a proven performer. I did notice an increase in power but I also changed my exhaust and chopped out the plugged up catalytic convertor at the same time so hard to say what I gained. Good luck! Ralph in Winnipeg

I want to change all the airbox on mine, I have some parts in my garage...
I want also to put the air intake in a higher position.

    Suggestions?
I have a van, so I can't mount the intake behind the cabin, and I use it on streets, then I can't put on it a snorkel...

Route it to intake air under the hood area in front of the Van, adapt the intake hose as close to the airbox as you can to 2" PVC pipe and route it up there using that.....If needed the flexible 2" PVC works real well as well.

K&N with hose-clamp mounting...also got the K&N micro-element bag for it...a very rare filter package, (took 4 weeks for Carquest to get it in) but should last the life-time of the truck...both components are washable...

First thing to consider is the airflow surface area. You could get the same affect by removing the cylindrical component of the stock air filter housing. Instead of a single 2" hole in the side...you would have FULL filter surface air flow...with little restriction. If you do any dusty operations, this stock air filter would soon become severely contaminated and in need of frequent changes.

The second is the washability. I do not use the oil that comes with the K&N system. Things would soon get mudded up, but this is how they can claim the fine-partical capture...infrequent varsol wash and oil replacement...a good system for pavement, but not practical for off-road in dusty conditions.

No oil, filter & micro-bag..I wash it in plain water after, or before, every off-road trip. It does indeed filter fine particals as seen during the 2 minutes it takes to wash it. What comes off is like a talc...

    Power? Yes
    Good mod? Yes

A PS!! for guys posting pics at att or thumbnail, like this above...if you don't resize your pic (make it smaller in both physical and kb size) it takes forever to load after clicking on it...I usually give up after 15 seconds...6 pics would take 10 minutes just to look at...FYI

That looks like the air filter that is on my son's 2017 Harley Davidson Dyna Low Rider S. Nice set up. I think I will go with this set up on my HiJet

I know this is an old post but... Spaner, what is the number of that K&N? This is exactly what I was thinking of doing.

I would suggest getting a k and n that fits the air box.
