I fianlly got around to installing the power windows and locks. I bought it all at A1electric. Power windows were tough to install, but overall it went well. I did the drivers side first, passenger side was a little easier. I had to cut some of the metal form the door for it to fit flush to allow door panel to snap back on. After strugling with how to wire it up, I ended up buying 2 fuse blocks from O'Rielys and installing them in the glove box. This made it much easier. The one on left is connected to battery and includes a ground. The one on right is ignition 12 volt acc. Doing this made wiring much easier and allowed me to have all my fuses in one location. I plan to make a cover that fits over fuse blocks so I can still use the glove box for other stuff. I also purchased A1electric's MES door actuator with keyless entry. The kit is pretty straight foward and not difficult, just takes some time to install. After install I did have to go back an adjust the postion of the actuator. Lastly I had ordered a rearview mirror with compass and temp from ebay. It was easy, just a 12v acc wire, a ground, and 2 wires that run temp sensor. Hardest part was fishing wire through A arm. I installed sensor under front bumper so it could get some air and stay away from engine heat (hopefully) so far so good. Heres some pics!
Good stuff, I don't usually recommend stuff but, a guy like you might enjoy the after-market power steering unit from super-ATV. Go with the polaris ranger unit rather than the universal, but the best would be to give them a call with mounting lengths, as they have multiple lengths to configure for all applications. I've heard good things.. Project #28 for me, just too busy...
nice job on the installation.the switches look factory..well done...I hate admit I've had the same power window kit in my garage for 2 years and haven't found the time to do it yet...loving that mirror ..may just have to steal your idea on that one Spaner I've seen that power steering kit on super atv and set myself to drooling for a few moments So many pistons in my garage and so little time to devote to em all
Thanks guys, my wife came out a looked at my work and rolled her eyes!! My kids thought it was "cool" Fupabox- Thanks! I was nervous cutting into the dash, just made a point to take my time. It was slow but I really like how it turned out. My rearview is a donnely brand, It was a little cheaper than the gentex. But mainly I chose this one because it was the same one in my wifes Nissan Altima and I like how the compass and temp are at the bottom and not on mirror. I did have to buy a mirror mount (came with 3 sizes) and glue from O'Rielys because my stock mirror mounted to metal above windshield. Spaner- Thanks, Power steering would be great! I'll have to look into it. Although I have blown the "project" budget for a little while! I've driven it to work this week and I love the power windows, I know its a small truck but its so much easier now to get pass side down. A bonus is I no longer have the window crank hitting my knee! I highly recommend the A1Electric kit, motors are quite and smooth.
So the kit you ordered is for a cable lock system? From your picture it looks like you hooked the actuator straight up to the lcok, is that right?
Great, Thats the same keyless entry kit I used, works great! Let me know if you have any questions, email is the best way to contact me. I unfortunaltly will be selling my mini truck, so some one else will get to enjoy all my hard work!
yeah I will be selling mine in a few years when I leave Japan, but until then I will hopefully enjoy all the amenities I have added.
