Hey all: Because of the soon-to-be 2 kids we'll be hauling around, I'm actually steering away from the trucks to a van. Anyone got one of these? I can't see any seatbelts for the back seats in any photos. thanks Jman
No belts in my van There are no seat belts for the rear seats in my van - I think this is standard but I do not know for sure. I have been thinking of installing some lap belts but have yet to do any research. Has anyone ever installed seat belts?
I saw another post where somebody referenced the fact they had put their own seatbelts in the back. Here is a snap of a 1996 Sambar I don't see any seatbelts in the rear or any evidence that there ever was seatbelts in the rear. How odd is that op:

So, if I'm to understand this correctly... ... I can specify with the importer to get rear seatbelts installed prior to shipping to Canada, and buy it from the vendor ready for our highways! Jman, A word to the wise. Get it in writing that the rear seatblets must pass inspection in your province and deal with somebody local that you can go back on. Not all dealers/ exporters/ importers have the same level of expertise and dedication. Any old knob head can drill a hole through some sheet metal and fasten a belt to it. Does this mean it's going to work properly when your loved one or you is in it during a crash? I looked up some of my archive pics of the Subaru Libero [German LHD unit] which has the same body style as the Sambar of the mid 90's. It came with one lap belt and one shoulder belt for the middle row of seats and the back seat had lap belts for both occupants. Maybe the mount points are there in the JDM units to mount shoulder belts in a Sambar underneath the plastic trim. Full view of a Libero

I got my van through Japanoid, and they install rear belts (lap only, no shoulder) in all their van before they go out.
Seat Belt Mounting Points I have a 93 Sambar and need to install seat belts for the rear seats. I had a close look at the car to see if there were any signs of a factory location and couldn't find any. Looking under the car there is a body crossmember just in front of the engine access cover that would be a good place to attach the belts. If you are going to do this yourself remmember to use Grade 8 bolts and maybe a body washer behind the nut. Speaking of nuts use a grade 8 locknut so that it won't come loose.
seat belts in Domingos not in Sambars Subaru Domingos and Sambars are sisters (the Libero someone posted above would be a Domingo in Japan). Like Cameros and Firebirds. AFAIK Domingos have 3 rows of seats of seats all with shoulder belts. Sambars come with 2 rows and no seat belts. So Sambars would definitely have the mount points. Or order a Domingo Domingos have 1200cc engines, a big difference in Japan, because they are not kei cars and hence tax much higher. The bumpers and trim are different, but bascially Domingos and Sambars are the same vehicle.
Subaru Domingo seat belt configuration Good Day. I drive a 1990 Subaru Domingo 4WD 5sp 1200cc 3 cylinder. It is set up as a 7 seater. Factory shoulder and lap belts for the driver and passenger. 2 factory lap belts in the middle row and it had high quality factory mounts where I installed 3 lap belts bought from Lordco in the 3rd row. These mounts were located on the floor rerarward of the engine cover right at the back. I am currently looking for a pair of headrests for the 3rd row as my particular model of Domingo never came with headrests in this position. They are tiny and the wreckers have nothing that fits. Coincidentally my wife's Chrysler Pacifica front headrests work in it but they are not available at a wrecker that I can find and cost $693 each new from Chrysler. This micro van rocks though. With a center diff lock it was almost unstoppable in a foot of snow this year although with 12" mini snow tires I didn't have great ground clearance. Cheers, Roman
