hello all i have a mini cab left hand drive 4x4 . It was hard starting and when it did it would idle .It would not do anything above idle, just sputter and cut off. When i took the air cleaner tube off,to start the cleaning ,there was alot of fuel in it.So i started it with the tube off and fuel was spewing out of the carb.
I took pictures of everything,to make sure i would get the lines back on right. I cleaned the carb ,It wont start after the cleaning without starting fluid.Fuel is not spewing from the carb any more.Any ideas. There is fuel at the carb. Pulled line to make sure.I am at wits end with this. Thanks

put ur hand over carb when cranking to get fuel going like choke. did you take top of float bowl off, if so did you make sure all gasket was good?
small hole on left top of the float bowl HAS to be covered or wont idle

Your hand should be gassey wet after you choke it. If you block all air off right at carb and crank and gas is not running out when you take your hand away you have no gas in carb. Check float bowl after cranking, it should be half full when you take it apart. OOPS. Im thinking of a Daihatsu carb. sry Still your hand should be wet.

my hand was not wet ,It did smell a little like gas ,but not wet.So there is probably something still blocked. I guess i need to take it back apart and recheck everything. I also read somewhere that i had to bleed the air out of the coolant lines. But cant remember where the bleeder valve is? thanks

Prob not a valve, just take a garden hose and force water in a loosened hose till it comes out elsewhere, filling through radiator cap wont burp it, but force in heater hose ect. You dont need to bleed it if heater works normally, heater is your guage that water is circulating ok. When your assured it full and working good let some water out without running engine and then put in antifreeze. Remember that if you think your low on water check your heater, if it stops heating then shut off engine fast. You wont hurt engine block if some water is still in to boil but heater will stop heating just before. Take your carb off and really study the little holes and ports till you understand what goes where and why.High speed jet and long hole to get gas to carb and low speed jet and long tube to got gas to carb and small squirt gun to squirt gas in when you step on throttle and a screw to adjust idle speed by holding butterfly open just a little. You really cant get too far off if you just put everything in the middle of turns on screws if you get it all apart and dont remember how.Follow the gas from the bowl , through the jets and through the tubes to carb. Make sure it is all open and small jets are clear and you can see through them, you can clean jets with one wire from a wire brush.

Ok then, if your hand is wet with gas then you have probably have enough to start. It takes gas, air, spark and compression to fire and you have gas sooooo- you have no spark or timing is off, you have too low compression which you can test for orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr? After you put your hand over carb and it comes back wet with gas can you smell gas at tail pipe? Does some gas run out after you pull hand away or just smells like gas. Trying to tell if enough gas is going in, I have splashed a cap of gas into carb with butterfly open and been able to start that way, Im just trying to eliminate the not enough gas idea so we can go on to next possibility. Does it ever hit and try to start? I just went back over your post on 3-22 and you said you had gas in air cleaner? You might be FLOODED, take spark plug out after cranking some and see if it is wet or dry! Dont worry, we gona win and get it started soon.

I really thank you for your help. When i put my over the carb gas runs out .I tried splashing gas in ,but no go.I was going to take a plug out ,but i gotta grind a socket down,Buy chance do u know what size socket? It does not even try to start .I pulled a plug wire off and put a plug in it to check for spark .I have none. Before i took the carb off the second time,it would start with starting fluild . So i had spark before, but now none. What could have went wrong over two days of sitting? I am going to borrow a coil tester, to check that.I did check to see if i could have bumped a wire lose or something. So i think spark is my issue now,i just dont understand how i could have lost spark. thanks

Yea good job, now your gettin somewhere. If you have a point distributor then turn on your ignition with the rotor cap off and close and open the points by hand. You should get a spark each time at the coil.Lay coil wire where it can short to the block. No gas! The points ground the coil on one side so you should have 12 volts at the other coil connection with key on. You might have to turn crankshaft some to allow the points to close. Do this and then well go on. If you have 12 volts at the coil and still no spark then coil is bad or your points arent making and might need adjusting or cleaning, filing to get good connection. You might need a condenser too but you should get some spark if coil is good. Dirty points are most likely your problem.

no points .i layed the coil wire down on the frame against a bolt head turned over. nothing. can i use a automotive/tractor coil on it? i have one laying around

check to see if coil is getting voltage and if other side is making and breaking as it turns over.

Well the coil is not getting any voltage,Are there any fuses to look for in hidden places, or inline? I would need analog to see if was breaking,or will just a test light work. Its too
fast for a digital meter .Is that right?

Usually you can find a fuse or just hot wire the + side of the coil but Im not sure on the electronic ignition. Make sure key is on.

ok thanks .i thought about hot wiring the coil ,but was also unsure if it would hurt the electronic ignition.im going to do some backtracking in the wiring this weekend.I wont have anytime the rest of the week to do anything on the truck.i will let you know what i find.Come to think of it ,i thought i heard something strange( like a fuse pop) when i went to start it the second time around. I really appreciate all your help and time with this truck.

Your trucks not like mine and you might try for some help from owners like yours. I would say follow the hot wire and find the fuse and go from there for safety to your ignition system.

i found the power problem to the coil, dirty connection .But have power on both sides of the coil when the key is on.not while cranking.
