I can't hear my hijet fan coming on.

Hey everyone. long time reader, first time poster. I have a 97 hijet pickup (jdm) that I use to install appliances with. I'm the sole installer for Sears, Home depot, and Best Buy in my town of Flagstaff AZ. I drive this vehicle at the minimum: 30km a day 6 days a week. My question is: is there a fan relay on a 97 hijet or is there just a thermoswitch activating the fan. Anyone (fupabox?) have a wiring diagram for this vehicle? that would tell us immediately. Thanks and I look forward to your thoughts. I cannot hear the fan coming on at all. the temp gauge I believe is one of those that is either cold, dead in the middle, or pegged. all mine does is stay in the middle making you think everything's fine. great truck all in all. just installed a set of those 12" 6 ply mud and snows from G+R and replaced a broken front left axle. the push button 4wd works very well. I avg only 26.5 to 32mpg in town not very good but then again, I'm at 7000ft of elevation and the carb has not been rejetted. maybe someday I'll rejet it, but it just runs too good right now to be messing with it.

Your cooling fan is controlled by a thermoswitch on the rad..it grounds out at around 95degrees and completes the ground circuit to the fan (fan has + power all the time from the ignition switch) I'm including a cooling system pdf that should be 99% the same as your Hijet. BTW Flagstaff is a beautiful area..always love driving through there on the way to California

Yeah, Flagstaff is a really good place to live. I can escape winter with a 45 minute drive to Sedona. that in itself is worth the price of admission. so thanks for the quick reply, and pdf. I just filled up today after doing a dishwasher in walnut canyon. got 28.83 strictly city driving with the new snow tires. that's five gallons for the last six days. which means I use about a gallon a day. (the truck wasn't used on sunday). so... a gallon a day for 24 days out of every month is 24 gallons. multiply by 3.50 per gallon = $84 a month for gas. filled up next to an idling ford superduty diesel as well. I showed up, filled up, and left while they were filling the second tank that must have been a huge bill.
Thanks again for the help. I'm going after the fan issue on sunday. (hopefully) I'll let you know what the culprit was.

okay, update. I worked on the fan situation sunday. I unplugged the thermoswitch,
installed a jumper into the plug and the fan fired right up. so then I started to poke around and noticed that the coolant in the radiator was pretty cold. I felt the top hose and it was hot, the bottom was cold and soft. this is with the vehicle warmed up. the funny thing is, the heater cranks out the heat fine. I think this all points to a clogged radiator. what do you guys think? I took off the radiator cap as well and the coolant was almost cold to the touch. when you rev up the engine with the cap off, you can see the coolant level drop a bit then when you let off the throttle, it comes back up. advice is greatly appreciated.

remove the thermostat and try it..either the thermostat isn't opening all the way or the rad needs to be flushed

I recently had a Daihatsu that was doing the same thing. I pulled the thermostat and ran it same results. Bottom line radiator was stopped up. 65.00 for the chemical cleaning.
After reinstalling the radiator, cap off, engine up to operating temp., thermostat open, you can see the coolant moving pretty good.
