Hey Ya'll .. im running out of possible options with this problem and have been thru the forum over and over again. the truck idles fine ... when i put my foot in the throttle it is real boggy at first... seems like if i let up a little and SLOWLY push down the throttle than it comes to life runs clear and like a raped ape. i have changed wires cap rotor and preformed the mentined seafoam/deep creep coctail blast. seems like a vacum lines are correct clean and functioning corretly. Ive played with the timming some.... ne were from 5* btdc to 9*bdtc.. seems to try to run its best closer to about 7*btdc.think im timming at about 900 rpm .. its driving me crazy:frustration: that if i go slowly in the throttle i have good responce but if i just push normal it boggs. no smoking ne time either ... thanks
Sounds like accelerator pump. Remove the intake hose and press the throttle quickly (engine off) and you would see a squirt of fuel if the pump is working
thanks for the quick reply guys!!! just replaced PLUGS wires cap and rotor no responce... while doing the seafoam coctail seen the pump squirting the gas in. i thought it may be squirting too much too fast causing the bog but found that its needed ... thought about just pluging it off to see if it would improve things but the choke gets in the way.... old plugs were tan to black carbon .. but no smoke from exaust so most likly just old plugs .. did compression test twice cold and hot ....all cylinders are right around 150psi..
what kind of readings are you getting at idle and under operating conditions with a vacuum gauge connected to the intake manifold?
The choke opens mechanically when the throttle it wide open any way look I don't know why everyone likes to beat around the bush with the sea foam it's for the most part just smoke and mirrors with this subject it is called a carb It stands for California air resource board it has 3 small jets in it a low as in idle a mid as in just going down the road and a main as in when u punch it and hold it at full throttle and yes there is a accelerator pump that could very well be the problem but still unbolt the carb take the bowl off and clean the **** out of it even if you're not an expert at this it's not to hard to look in the bowl and tell what's metal and what's old gummed up **** from years of junk gas than take a can of carb cleaner and at the least spray some in the 3 tubes with brass inside them put the thing back on the truck and feel the power the accelerator pump also feeds out of the bowl so a good cleaning would most likely fix that too
Ive had a number of trucks that had that bogging problem. First I would check for vacuum leaks, fuel filter, air filter ect. Next major thing I would do is rebuild the carb. Anybody can pull a carb. and clean the inside of bowl, and blow through the jets and install a kit, thats great and will most likely help. The biggest part of rebuilding the carb. is getting all the small orifices and fuel passages clean. To do that right, completely take carb. apart and soak in a chemical solution. Ive had to pull carbs. back off after installing a kit because the bogging was still there. Its all those little bitty internal channels that need to be clean as well. Sometimes blowing air through them will not get the build up out. Chemical solution will.
Most guys that ask for help are also not confident to pull a carb apart...it may be simple to some of us..some people are completely stuck as to what to do if a float bowl gasket is torn,or how tight to put a carb jet back in..I've seen many many overtightened adjustment needles and ruined jets from ham fisted repairs,not to mention carb float spring tabs being bent..etc. a good carb cleaner,and "seafoam" IS a good one..will prevent a lot of problems when trying to talk someone into a carb rebuild... The word carburetor comes from the French carbure meaning "carbide" Carburer means to combine with carbon. In fuel chemistry, the term has the more specific meaning of increasing the carbon (and therefore energy) content of a fuel by mixing it with a volatile hydrocarbon.
ok sorry kinda sounded like a dick there wasent trying to and i know the proper way to clean and rebuild a carb is to dis assemble and soak the body jets and bowl in a cleaning bath i like crc my selph and after said soak take a pin peace of wire or if skilled enough a jet drill set and clean the jets set the float replace the gaskets needle and seat do a static adj on youre adj jets if so carb has ya da ya da yada im a mechanic /shop foreman for a john deere dealer up in nh the point i was trying to make is if youre carb is in need of a rebuild or a good cleaning weather youre skilled enough to do it or not just do it or have it done if youre running that engine lean its doing allot more harm than just not getting up and going it could verry well overheat the engine cause micro groves or scoreing in youre cylinder walls burn valves
completely understandable..you didn't sound like a dick,you were giving good advice...I think there is more trepidation about repairs on mini trucks because parts are sometimes hard to find,sometimes expensive,and local help is often unavailable in case someone gets stuck...
