    Check this thread out. http://www.minitrucktalk.com/showthread.php?t=7070

If your truck was carbureted no problem. Being that your truck is EFI you might have some issues depending on if your engine has a distributor or not. If it does the first step in figuring it out would be to see if an older distributor off a carburated truck will fit.

If its distributorless then the computer will not be able to control the ignition advance efficiently nor will it be able to control the mixture anymore.

Im sure there is a handful of other things but that was my initial thought.

I'd try talking to a reputable LPG converstion specialist to see what your options are. It will probably come with a hefty price tag.

When I was making my rear bumper last week I noticed what I thought was a small exhaust leak so I removed the muffler to fix it today. What I found was a large hole in the resonator(?) hidden under the strap that holds the heat shield on.

I cut the old shell out and replaced it with a piece of 2 1/2" heavy duty exhaust pipe.

I made new straps for the heat shield from stainless steel to help prevent the rust from coming back.

    Old Machinist,
Had you noticed exhaust in the cab with that hole in the exhaust? I am smelling exhaust when stopped idling and wondering if i have a leak.

I didn't notice any smell inside the truck but I rarely sit idling. I was working on making the rear bumper when I looked up and saw some black residue so I started the engine, stuck my hand up there and felt the leaking.

Finally warm enough and time enough to bring the Mits home yesterday.
Head milled, new gasket, valves done. New fuel pump and yep... just as I suspected the other mechanic had the timing belt off a notch.
Really slow to engage the 4wd, takes almost a minute warming the truck before the light comes on and the new fuel pump is pretty noisy. See how things go now it's up to 0 degrees and has run a little. Sure gets around well in the slush in 4x4 and I don't even have the winter tires on it yet.

i got wiper blades two days ago and i drove mazie for a 60 - 65 mile trip today to get a quad battery. anyone heard of shorai batteries they are lithium iron batteries i got one of those i prolly should have saved my money and got a normal one but they say that can hold unloaded charge for one year with out maintenance and its about 1/3 the weight and tiny prolly 3/4 the size of the stock one with more power output but at 150 bucks it better be to late now anyways. only reason i got it i dont ride that quad but twice a year so i should be good to go now. anyways the trip was nice used less than 1/8 a tank and it wad lots of hills and stop and go on county roads so thats not bad on mileage is it? around 30 mpg with lots of 3rd gear hill climbs. ok sorry for the long windiness.

I got suck in three feet of snow, it was hard pack at the top for about 100 meters than I sunk into it for about half a feet. Thirty minutes later of digging and pushing back and forth we broke free from much embarrassment and drove down the mountain we were on.

    I want more locker!

After installing car alarm, keyless entry, remote starter and power door locks my battery went dead after a couple of sub zero days.
I pulled off the batery cover and discovered a "riding lawn mower" battery!
This is a joke right? Tell me these things don't really use a battery like this.
I took a quick measure and went down to Costco and bought the smallest battery they had and it was a perfect fit! I had to install universal battery clamps and cut off those chinzy stock clamps that were too small anyways and re-attach the cables.Battery I took out was a 300 cca battery and the the one I put in was a 500 cca. man what a difference when I crank it over now! When you put the cover back on install a shorter bolt so it doesn't rub against the battery.

Nice. When my stock battery crapped out, I took a few quick measurements and went down to our local small town hardware store (I try to buy local) and lucked out finding one that not only completely filled up the space (like yours) even had the terminals on the correct side. I did replace the connections and had to make a new bracket to hold it in but it works great. Later I realized it's the exact same size battery that I had bought a year or two before for my John Deere! :)

Oh, I'm finally working on a plow/bumper mount. Got the blade and the blade mount, I'm working on mounting it all to the truck. Details at 10! (11 on the east coast) :D

I just replaced my battery also. I went with a lawn and garden battery, because I was unable to find a full size battery that would fit. The problem that I have is that when I require a lot of juice for my plow or my winch it almost stalls my engine. I know a full size more powerful battery would be helpful, but I wonder if a higher amperage alternator is the answer and if it is availble.

I installed a Frantz filter in the Hijet. I JB weld a fitting to the oil filter and run the oil into the Frantz filter, the filtered oil comes out to the fitting that I drilled and tapped in the oil pan, then JB welded to make sure. Filter bracket fit on the frame rail under the seat and there are even 2 threaded holes to bolt it on. I have used these Frantz filters on my last 6 or 7 vehicles and they rock. They use a roll of toilet paper as a filter element and (the company website has more specifics, wefilterit.com) they work very well and are super cheap! The oil is under pressure and is filtered and then runs into the oil pan where there is no pressure. Stock oil filters will stop filtering when full but this filter is always filtering your oil. The company claims particles under .1 micron are caught in the toilet paper while a regular oil filter only filters to 20 microns so 200 times better by their math. Do these work better? I don't know but a roll of TP is 50 cents and my last 3 vehicles didn't burn a drop of oil and ran great for a long time. (toyota tecel 420,000km body disintegrated, F150 350,000km body disintegrated/bought Hijet, VW golf 250,000km body shot, steering box broke, engine would have run another 100k.) Ralph in Winnipeg

I've heard of those for years but never really saw anyone use one...very interesting....with the better filtration it is definitely something to consider..thanks for sharing

I got an email notification of a post from greg0178 but it isn't here?

He made a great point that scared me when I read it. If oil is being bypassed from the oil filter to the Frantz filter and then back into the oil pan is any getting to the rest of the engine? I double checked the installation instructions and the brass fitting only has a 1/16" hole through it, I assume to restrict the flow to the bypass filter so the engine is getting enough oil. Whew, crisis averted. I think I will check both set ups (Saab and Hijet) to be 100% sure that fitting is in place! I know these filters work and I believe they extend the life of an engine but I must be sure on this!!! Thanks for pointing this out Greg0178 as If I find it not in place, I may have blissfully killed my engine. Thanks, Ralph

Hi Ralph. I am a big fan of Frantz (and similar) bypass filters. That is a bit of a sketchy setup for the feed oil line to the Frantz filter. It is hard to tell if it is interfering with the function of your standard full flow filter (you still want your full flow fliter to work as normal...very important!). In your setup how will you change your normal filter when required?...looks like you would have to re-weld the line every time to the new full flow filter. Have you thought about using a sandwich adapter...it goes between your engine and oil filter and has various numbers of ins and out ports. Makes it very simple. The other easy and cheap hook up spot for teh feed line is the oil pressure switch...remove switch...install a T...reinstall switch in T, install feed line in T...done.

I have a sandwich adapter that I used for my car but don't have one for the truck. I put 150,000km on my F150 with the same set-up, meaning I never touched the spin on filter again and just changed the Toilet paper filter element. That truck rusted away around the 330,000km mark but never burned a drop of oil so I don't think the lack of a spin on filter was detrimental. I could make an adapter and likely will one day, since I have a metal lathe and the know how, but I know this will be fine. Maybe for my next Hijet!

Based on the weather report yesterday morning, I scrambled last night and got my new snow plow setup finished (well, except for the winch hookup to raise and lower it). Now the forcast is for the snow to go south of us. :( Oh well, at least the hard part is done. Will have to add some pics later.

Yeah, I kinda freaked out when I saw that. I have no experience with bypass filters. I deleted my post after reading up on them. You will be ok as the bypass filter relies on pump volume to filter with no loss in pressure.

Psilosin is right. You should regularly change your full flow filter.
