Honda Acty Tach issues with video and pics

Well, I hooked up a tach to my 1991 Honda for a few years now, and it has worked great.

I used an Equus 6068 tach.

I now have a 1994 Honda Acty Crawler and I planned on hooking a tach up to it as well. Only problem is I could not remember for the life of me where I hooked it up to on my 1991 Acty.

So, I traced my wire back on the 1991 Acty and found it to go to this spot under the rear engine cover...

So I did the same thing on my 1994 Acty Crawler, but now the tach pulses with what appears to be the fuel pump priming. The rpms are correct thou.

Check out this youtube link of what is happening...

    Any idea's?

Anyone else have a tach hooked up to a Honda Acty? Where do you get your tach signal from?

check out the youtube link. this is getting weirder...

now, after the truck warms up, the tach will stay constant at below 1500rpm, but as soon as there is any throttle pushed, the tach starts pulsing.

It looks like the pulsing is coming with the fuel pump clicking, but when at idle and there is no throttle being pushed, the fuel pump still clicks but the tach does not pulse unless I push the throttle.

Any idea's at all? I might have to give up giving this acty a tach what seems to bad.

Please chime in if you have any experience

what happens if you hook it straight to the - side of the coil...could be a crossed wire somewhere in your wiring harness that is screwing with the signal...going straight off the coil should bypass the crossed wire

Thanks fupabox. Where would I find the coil?

    Thanks,

I'm not sure if your 94 is any different, but the coil on my 92 Acty is located under the box just slightly ahead of the exhaust header on the RH side. If you remove the engine cover and look from the top down, it would be just slighty forward and toward the RH side of the engine bay opening. It's attached to the underside of the box with two bolts. I'm not sure which wire on the coil you'd need to connect up to. There are two 2-pin connectors that connect to the coil and they can be kinda stubborn to pull off without damaging the connectors, so be careful if you have to disconnect them.

    Thanks vtg

I think this is the one I already tried spicing into.

The distributor has a cable that runs to the coil, right?

On my 91 it is easy to get at, on my 94 it is near impossible because the AC lines run in the same vicinity making it near impossible to rear.

Are you able to remove the bolts holding the coil on? Is this done from underneath the truck?

If you look at my 1st photo, i think this is where I was hooking it up.

    Can you provide a photo?

Yes, there is a primary coil wire that runs from the distributor to the coil. The connector you show in your pic does not look familiar to me. The two connectors I mentioned plug directly into a pair of plug-ins on the coil. The coil can easily be removed from the underside of the truck and is attached with two bolts that have 10 mm heads. I'm anxious to hear how you make out hooking up a tach because I wouldn't mind installing one in my Acty.
