So a few weeks back I downloaded a few mpg apps for the new phone Started keeping track I had yet to put my summer tires on ( had to fix a nail in one ) Mileage with the winter tires seemed pretty poor - 35 ish since then I have put the summer tires on and did my air filter - as seen in this thread about half way down - http://www.minitrucktalk.com/showthread.php?t=10994 Last couple of fill ups clocked me in at 51 mpg And that still includes hauling a decent load every day for work NICE !! Nope ..... not missin my hemi ( well not missin the 9 mpg anyway )
Excellent...I only averaged over 50 once... but it was a redemption of sorts..It can be done ..congrats....I think we should start a 50mpg club for all who have seen 50 or more
SWEET! I have never gotten that good of mileage. The app that I used was "mileage monitor", but I kept forgetting to update my info, so I went back to the old pen and paper notebook mode. Oldschool!
Congrats on 51mpg! The bad winter mileage might just be the combination of winter gas + more time spent in open loop. I just write my odometer on the gas receipt, and type stuff into this website every week or so. It's more useful if you own a popular car so you can compare real-life mileage... I think I'm the only kei van on there.
So I was doing some math on my recent fill up and I am getting around 25mpg. I know I have my foot in it to try and get up to 55 MPH. I am wondering if my tires 165\65 r14 are really binding speed and performance or if I have some engine problems. Any ideas for things to check if my engine is performing where it actually should be? I can post a video if that would help.
165 shouldn't be too wide,may make a bit of difference in mileage but not huge...vacuum is one of the best ways to test for a healthy engine...a cheapo $20 vacuum gauge can tell you if timing is off,valves are leaking,intake leaks,worn piston rings,clogged exhaust...they are worth every penny at 5x the price,and will save you chasing possibilities and replacing parts that are still serviceable...that being said I still find one of the biggest killers of fuel mileage is driving style...shifting under 4k rpm and driving mostly in top gear will nearly double your fuel mileage...when I drive my truck hard my mileage drops below 30mpg (about 11 km per liter) in town...driving more sedately I average 14-15 km per litre in stop and go driving...the best mileage will be on long drives on secondary (80kph) roads..where I have averaged 20km per litre or more
Let's quit confusing everyone because THERE ARE NO GALLONS in Canada. Even the damned normal car dealers are back to this pre-1976 crap. Your fuel consumption works out to 5.5L/100km, translates to 42 mpg, as only the US uses gallons. 2011 is not 1976, even if you're old as me and actually ever did buy fuel in Imperial Gallons. Which brings me to my gripe #2. Stereo salesmen using the old peak to peak measurements forty years after I used to buy audio stuff. If you had 500 real watts in your car your head would be like an overripe tomato. I had 1/10th of that in a huge 60's boogie-van when I was in my 20s and now I'm 80% deaf!
thanks that is a great help i will head out and get one and check over my engine. i still have to install my tach that i bought. i just haven't had the time to tear apart the dash to get to the wires i need.
i use mpg cause that liters per 100km bs is just that. bs. why per 100km? why not one? why not 200? no reasoning behind it. should be liters per km then.
Is that 0.05 L/km, or 0.005? multiplying by 100km is just so that the fuel consumption number is an easy(er) to use single digit. The best reason to use L/100km is that it takes less math to make good decisions. For example, mpg makes gas guzzlers all look the same, and exaggerates the savings of hybrids. The savings from buying a truck that gets 12mpg instead of 10mpg is the same as buying a hybrid that gets 60mpg instead of a 40mpg compact. Same 2L/100km savings, but distorted when presented as mpg.
I totally agree!! Peak output and raw power are 2 TOTALLY different things. I just want to ask ...... Does mean that your head now resembles 1/10th of an overripe tomato ??
