I'm in need of a new distributor cap and wires for my '92 Sambar. It seems everytime I run through salt and slush up here in Atlantic Canada my ride spits and sputters and often dies.
The only cure is to wait until the heat of the engine drys everything out or to pull everything off and clean and wipe down the cap and wires. One time I even had to get out the old heat gun to force dry the system before it would start.
Where could I buy 'the works'.... a cap, wires, and coil? Would the cap from a Justy fit this beast? The wires and coil can be jury rigged from any source if the originals are too expensive, but the Dist. Cap is unique.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

  2. I have limited knowledge on Subaru's, but get engine model and put it in google. You MIGHT get lucky and find some other more traditional applications for the engine and be able to get the parts at NAPA or a local lawn mower shop.

The cap looks really similar to one from an EA82. Have the parts guy look up an '86 GL 1.8L. I haven't made the comparison myself, but the parts appear similar.

When mine did this (after I filmed those videos...), I cleaned up the cap and top of the distributor with some brake cleaner, smeared a healthy heaping serving of RTV silicone around the step near the base of the cap, and reinstalled. I believe I experienced the stumbling/stuttering once more, but it resolved itself quickly and never came back.

I had a similar problem with my Previa (also has an engine lying on its side very close to the ground) and I fixed the problem with RTV. :)

I've been told that WD40 (water displacement) really works for "cracked)dist, caps. was told this a long time ago. don't know but it won't hurt to try.

Please give the chasis number embossed on the chasis on the inside & manufacturing year on the seat belt label, our Japan office can mail parts directly to you.
