    Test drive

    Hi Greg,

I think you have one Kick-Ass set-up there. I don't think you would actually want any different (higher) gearing. When that little beast is in it's "true element", it (nor you) won't need to be seeing anything north of 40mph.

Tranny sounds like it's shifting nice and tight. I like the sound of it going thru the gears so quick.

Also, I believe the term you were looking far on the turning radius is like those lever steer lawnmowers "zero-turn radius", or close enough:D.

Damn, now you see what it takes to get me to post-up (just some "vid-bait");).

Anyway Great job so far..............later, slim

glad to see its out of the garage and running around!

is it street legal or you just running it from your driveway to the end of the road to get in the pits? lol.

also those tires.. are they skid steer tires?

    Very nice job.

A very long project, but you got to be happy with that.
You must have had a hard time keeping the grin factor under control the first time you took her out. Don't worry, no one saw the "little dance and giggle" you did when you got back. :D
I don't know of any other hobby that can payoff in quite the same way. So much work, but it's always worth it in the end. Always.
I know you still have some stuff to do, but you're there.

Slim was right. Just before you do your first wax job, the only thing missing is the tail gate sticker "ZERO TURN RADIUS KIT".

Congrats, now give someone else the video recorder...:pop:

    Thanks guys!

I just need to stop driving it like its a dragster! LOL Its just so much damn fun though. It shifts hard and breaks the tires loose in all 4 gears but thats the nature of a Honda trans.

Im really impressed by the lockers. I really can't tell they are there... no clunky sounds or clicking like I thought. I was really worried that it was gonna be an issue with the 4 wheel steering. However, the center diff is still open so that might be the difference.

Stuff, Not street legal, have a SMV triangle. Yes those are skid steer tires. (Galaxy Beefy Baby 27 x 8.50)

Neighbors! Thats the problem with them. They all don't appreciate your hard work. I think the sound in the video was great. Your truck would be welcome as my neighbor!

thanks guys. It would be nice to have some normal neighbors, or at least ones that aren't in their 70's. might have to rethink the muffler. don't really want to though. Plan to take plenty of video.

Got my center console done finally! What a PITA that was.

Spent a long time doing cable, hose and wire management.

Also got my intake done just need to make a canister/deflector of some sort but i'll wait till later to do that.

The good thing is I realized i had forgot to connect the brake booster so Im hoping my braking problems will be gone!

Will try to post some pics of some of the stuff soon.

    Cheers!

Greg, common, you got to make that work...AUTO TRANS...

Now that you have the center-console DONE; OLD-SCHOOL...

    SHIFT-TO-Neutral....REVS...(for vacuum&break-boost)...Maximum Breaking Action...

    Shift-to-DRIVE...petal-to-the-metal...

MAX BEAKING ACTION & MAX CLIMBING POWER...

You should have no problems...if you shift into neutral, you will no longer be "fighting" the engine for breaking control...

A lot of power there, put it on the hill...

Shot a couple vids this weekend. not exactly what i was wanting but i was taking it easy and the ticks are bad so i didn't want to ask my brother in law to basically get out and film (I wouldn't of wanted to). Had a problem with the driveshafts wanting to walk out of the trans but got that fixed now.

Truck has tons of power, road manners need some work. I worked on the truck a lot this past weekend tweeking suspension and tire pressures and it is 200% better than when i first got there. got up to about 40mph (had more but got scary) on the road and it was decent but it seems to want to dart left and right a bit. The skid steer tires run really well above thier rated 5mph max speed and have great traction. :D

I don't have my center diff welded up yet and can't wait becuase it gonna be almost unstoppable on the dirt/mud inclines when i do

The first vid you can see the shift light on the tach at about :30. 6800 rpm. LOL Belt got a little wet...

The second vid my bil was driving. First person to ever drive it except for myself. he did pretty good with the steering.

Installed new head unit, got tired of the CD's skipping. Splurged a little and got a Sony with a cool ipod tray behind the faceplate and bluetooth for streaming Pandora.

Also installed much needed door speakers. I used Polk audio DB401 and they fit in the stock location very nicely.

It was pretty easy to install as you can see in the pictures the door panel already has the location almost cut out. Just use a razor to finish it off.

Speaker wires are nearby just behind the bumper.

Ding Ding Ding!!! I was wondering how long it would take before someone noticed. I'm trying to figure out if I want to keep them or not. Thoughts? Was kinda thinking along the lines of a Monster Energy logo too.

Nice, Greg. I was looking at one of those HU from Sony from Crutchfeild. I surely don't need a CD in my truck. What sIze speakers did you use? I assume the 4 1/2"??

  24. greg0187

    greg0187 Moderator Staff Member

Thanks. I got the HU off ebay. Its the s300. $199 free shipping. If you don't need the bluetoth then u can save some money. The head unit is nice although the advanced menu system is a bit quirky compared to the alpine decks I usually buy. The speakers are 4" polk audio DB 401. Got those off amazon for $49 free shipping. They sound awesome and got great reviews. Also you can get away with cutting the speaker holes without taking the door panel off. You can feel the pattern through the vinyl where it needs to be cut.

A couple more pics of the radio. This is a really cool head unit. Tried out the heands free calling, streams pandora, and mp3's from my phone perfectly. My only beef about it is that it has a lot of function with very little buttons. The biggest... most usable function, IMO, is the standard preset buttons 1,2,3,4,5,6. Those are non-existent.

    But i-Pod in...

Control knob works just like the ipod. Up/down/left/right.

Don't think i posted any pics of the steering box and the shifter. I still need to make a cover for the shifter box. The joystick behind the shifter is for the rear steer. Truck is really dusty, we havent had any rain in a while. If there is anything ya'll want to see let me know and I'll do my best to snap a pic of it.

STOP IT...STOP IT...I can't take anymore of this audio tech...[IMG]

I just didn't want to say anything..(flames), the whole french thing comes up, no disrespect,:D just sayingggg...flame the other side cuz it does look good, very good.[IMG]

Nice job on that install, but that is way over the top for me. A lot of guys are going with "flash" as a soution to the off-road "skip" problem associated with the modern players; or the "super head"-GPX-ASP. Personally I went BACK to tape. I've got A LOT of old 80's cassetts from back in my high school days. Got a HI-FI player+Amp from a local yard for $20; and..."TAPE DON'T SKIP"...NEVER...

Not trying to diss you Greg, you do nice work, and that is a superb install; It's just that, I'd be afrade to scratch it...cuz it's all sparkely and cromed and stuff. That's just going to get "dirty"......dirty, used and abused...and I'm afrade that you're going to "hold back".
I want to see that pavement burn-out on video. You're truck could actualy compete in the "sippy hole" this weekend....and make some cash...show us some video of that...C'mon....that is a MONSTER...not a kittycat.

NB: While you're watching me drive, and listening to "Tiesto"; I'm "riding the lightning"...

But, but... "Water Donuts" and "Creek Drive"...VERY COOL...

Sorry...just..."hands free calling"?..your cab should be FULL OF MUD!!..MAN!!!

Spaner is confused...,... NICE HYDRO HOSE WORK,...just...I'm still hang'n

    Hang'n and "subscribed"...[IMG]

Yeah, the way I use my truck is pretty much entirely short trips around the property so having the preset buttons would be nice. Once I get the plow set up, there will be some times in the winter where I might actually spend more than 10 minutes at a time behind the wheel.

I remembered that I had an older Blaupunkt HU that the cassette function crapped out on but has a AUX IN and a fully functional radio that I may see if that will fit easily. The price is right!
