I just put a harley carb on my van and it seems that the fuel pump is overpowering the needle and seat. I have heard of others doing this conversion but no mention of a fuel pressure regulator. Did I miss something?

    you should run 6-8psi max!

Yeah, I have a 2-3.5 psi electric fuel pump on there now and it's still too much. I wondering if a rigid needle, not like the one in there with a spring in it might help.

is there a c-clip adjustment for needle height?..if there is you may need to move the clip up 1 notch

thanks fupa, this is not a slide carb. I have been reading and don't think I should monkey with that needle. I guess I will try a fuel pressure regulator. I dont know if I can find one to set the pressure low enough not to override the needle spring.
in hind sight I think that is what happened to the carb on the van. I ordered a kit for the carb from some place in austraila and the sent the wrong kit. I changed out the needle and float because the spring in the float needle felt stiffer thinking the old one must be worn out. The carb starved and surged from then on. I got so frustrated with that carb that I just don't want to go back to it now.
    on to new frustrations:(
I bought this for a stress reliever. so for it has just been a money reliever.

put the pressure regulator on and tuned it to about 1.5 psi and this thing runs really good now. I don't know about the mileage yet because I haven't refueled but I do know that the gas gauge is holding pretty steady and not dropping like the sun as it did before.

I put an electric fuel pump on a chevette once (to lazy to try and get the old one out) had the same problem. easy solve was to disconect the line venting to the pollution canister and used it as a return line to the tank then drilled a 1/16 " hole in gas cap to vent worked great. Also being cheap the canadian tire electric fuel pump was cheaper than a stock fuel pump.
