Bahahahaha so true! I have a dozen projects I want to do now that I wasn't going to attempt before...

I still have a little tweaking to do, I need to roll the fenders a tad more to eliminate rubbing when I lift the plow... it's a good thing I lifted this thing as high as I did, when I lift it up that extra weight pulls the tire down in the wheel well about 1.5"

OK, sorry it's taken me so damn long to get back to you on this but life's been hectic...

    Fronts
    Offset: ET +31
    Spacer: 1"
    Wheel size: 14x6

    Rears
    Offset: ET + 37
    Spacer: 1.25"
    Wheel size: 14x8

    Tires (front and rear)
EFX Blade DOT certified 6ply 1200 pound capacity 23x10R14 radials.

Yeah, they're pretty loud but what do you expect from 10" wide ATV tires? I have only driven them on snow and pavement but I'm pretty sure they'll sling gravel the same way they sling snow... the lug is pretty darn deep and they grip like a teenage girl watching a slasher flick. :D

So far my impressions are... these things rock! The are not bouncy on the road, have great traction in snow and on pavement. We'll see how they do in mud come spring!

I was wondering why you went with these instead of the All-Trails??? I got the all-trails on mine and the tread looks identical. Thanks!

Because these are DOT certified and my truck is legal to operate on the road... which also means I need DOT tires. These are the one of two types of ATV tires that are DOT that I have found and they are the ONLY ones I've seen that are less than 26" tall. Oh and my truck is also registered as an ATV and I don't want to give up trail riding either. Nor do I want to have to switch tires every time I want to switch from trail riding to road driving. :pop:

    No problem :pop:

Little update here, my windo-weld fix worked... but I don't know if it'll be permanent or not. I still have a little shaking in the steering but I'm pretty sure that's because I need a professional alignment and I'm not actually sure how balanced the ATV tires are. Also these suckers get pretty loud at 50mph, but I can still hear the radio so I'm not complaining

Oh, also took him out for an ice fishing adventure this weekend. Didn't catch any fish but DAMN I love this truck. Super easy to get all around the lake and no worries of busting through the ice since it was 14-20" thick.

Where do you live to have 14" to 20" thick ice already. We can't even skate on the ponds yet!!! And I'm on the 46th parallel.

  12. Snow is too high after those last couple of storms that passed. I'm confined to the plowed roads and busting the small drifts that may appear from blowing winds.

At one point, I was plowing with the undercarriage, but had sporatic breaks between drifts. If I didn't have those - would have been stuck...I had to come home and stay in til the plows. Absolutely can not go into the fields :(

Nice plowing - fun while you work too :p

Ever get those looks like - how in the hell is that little truck getting around? Love those :D

Yeah, the fields are too deep for me now too. Even with the lift and tires I have the snow is just too deep and I end up dragging. I got plenty of double takes from guys with big trucks when I was plowing though :D

Yeah I was out having fun in the field yesterday but we have a storm coming in tomorrow that will probably put an end to that. That's ok though, it will be better for skiing! :)

Better than the hurry-up and wait syndrome. You know those people who race by you to be first at the red light.

Yeah dude, I wasn't going to settle for "good enough" I wanted ATV tires so I could go offroad and/or drive on the shoulder of most roads in MN and I needed DOT tires so my truck could be street legal... and let's face it the truck just looks badass :D I can hardly wait for spring/summer and going offroading in this little bastard.

I like your build my carry is very similar in mods. I am going a little different route though. I removed the radiator and reinstalled it in the bed of the truck to clear rocks and mud. I plan to put my winch in the empty space the rad used to be in. I want to avoid making the nose any longer than it has to be. I love the hill climbing ability and don't want to hinder my approach angle.

    Regards, Jim

I primarily use my Carry on road, so I'm not worried about the Rad being in front. Hell, I wasn't even going to lift it until I found I needed to change my ride height in order to fit my plow... and then I just figured I might as well go all out

Looks great, I wish I had a mini of each one for the road and one for the trails. I figured the snorkel is alittle over kill but why not :D ? I love the tires you picked out.:)

Thanks, I like the way he looks too :)

I plan on snorkeling mine this summer if I get the time between everything else... and I'd like to eliminate the spaghetti madness of the vacuum lines that come from the air filter AND get a better/different air filter that is a standard size instead of the wacky "tall" Suzuki filter that I have now.

Honestly I really wanted to get some Superswampers or some such all trail truck tire, but there was just no way I'd have been able to get them to work without modifying the truck beyond my skill. I might do it some day... but I'd probably need to swap transmissions to a 4speed hi/lo setup if I put on any larger tires.

It's a marine battery box. Before I just had it held on with the strap but now it's got a bracket.

So today I am dropping off my Idler Arm at a machinist where he will be making me a pair of brass bushings to replace my worn out rubber bushing. I have an odd duck apparently, with my idler spindle being 78" in diameter or 2.44" in circumference instead of the .74" in diameter or 2.31" in circumference the standard ones are. Might not seem like a big deal but that extra .04" is the difference between it fitting or not. :/

So here's what I ended up with. Hopefully this'll solve my shaky steering problems... I'm still wondering if I need to put a grease fitting on this puppy; probably wouldn't be a bad idea but I want to drive the damn truck! Anyhoo, this cost me $50.00 to get custom machined and pressed into my idler arm. I'll be installing it shortly. Yeah, it's really 5:19AM in Wrenshall, MN right now :sly:

  27. Iron ... was this repair needed because normal use or the result of additional plow weight on the steering components?

  28. Ironraven

    Ironraven Active Member

Just normal use. Well and I really only began to notice it after I upgraded to 13" wheels and then REALLY noticed it once I put the ATV wheels and tires on. My problem is that apparently my truck has a slightly wider idler spindle than standard... so the one I ordered as a replacement didn't fit and it would have been a 3 week wait for the supplier to get an order of them from Japan so I figured I'd go brass instead :)

The good news is it fits like a glove and although the truck is slightly harder to steer there is barely any wheel shake and that's due to the fact that I need to balance these tires (or rather put in the balancing beads I ordered...)

Offroaders often do this to their fullsize vehicles although they are usually replacing nylon bushings with brass ones. Another forum member turned me on to a Nissan Xterra forum that references doing it for their trucks.
