ok I have an 1989 Suzuki carry here which is plated and I drive it on roads every chance i get! It's and Oldie but a goodie and i really enjoy driving it and find it VERY usefull. For the most part it runs fine. Smokes a little when it starts...and i have to tap the gas some untill it warms up a bit....but after it's been running for a while it seems to do ok. The problem i have is it sometimes just dies for no apparent reason. I'll be going 35MPH in say 4th gear.....put it in Neutral and coast as i am approaching a stop sign....and by the time i get to the stop sign the engine just dies. If i have the radio turned off and pay attention to the engine noise........i can just pump the gas as it is "dying" and that will keep the truck from stalling out.... I start the engine up again and go along on my merry way and everything is fine. Might drive all week and never have a problem...but just evey now and again it dies. Seems to happend more frequently when the weather is cold...but has happend in warm and cold weather. Anything i can check for? Things i already did (prior to this happening) replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter, oil filter and oil change. (sea foamed it a bunch of times....) any help would be GREATLY appreciated....:frustration:
any of the following could be the culprit.. warm idle speed too low,choke not opening up fully when warm,timing off,idle air screw needs adjustment,vacuum leak, do you have a tach on it ?
no Tach i did mess with the idle a while ago because it what running hard in Neutral... turned it down...maybe too much? on my carb i found the screw that adjusts the Idle......but there are a bunch of other screws which i turn but get no results
I would first check for a vacuum leak. Use a old windex squirt bottle filled with water and spray it at the carb base gasket, intake manifold gasket, and on any vac lines, while listening for any rpm change of the engine.
how can i properly tune my carb? I Identified 3 or 4 screws on the carb and it seems like only 1 of them really makes a differance when i turn it. I really think the carb needs adjustment. I have to stay with the car and pump the gas when i first start the truck for like the first 5 minutes of it running or it will die. It's like the cold IDLE is to low (forcing me to pump gas) and the hot IDLE is too low also (causing the truck to shut off sometimes) I ALWAYS have to pump gas until the truck warms up.....but once its warm it more or less stays running...except for the occational time it decides to die on me.
