well i decided to take the kids for a spin in our 1991 hijet 4x4.i didnt even make it one lap around our property and fell in a little whole and got stuck.after about 5 min. of rocking back and forth and the the hijet dying on me several times...the last time didnt go so well.it will not start now and has plenty of fuel.

any suggestions what to check first as i am going to try to avoid bringing another truck out to pull me and chance getting it stuck also.the only thing i could thing of was my battery holder is not holding so well right now:eek:.possibly grounded out and blew a fuse?

well until i have some daylight back its gonna set out over night and i will attempt to fix it in the morning.

thanks to all for taking time to help:)

maybe too much fuel (flooded) give it 3-4 hrs then give it a try.

    thanks guys!

as of right now im still unsure.i will dig deeper tomorrow and see what i come up with.it has a snorkel kit coming through the bed so i wouldn't think air intake unless there is another intake area below?

thank you both! and i might go out again tonight after it sits for awhile and try it.

Once you get it out, go to your nearest scrap dealer and get a couple 12" wide by 36" long pieces of mid weight expanded metal. I have some in every vehicle (even the 97 VW golf I drive to work) and it'll really help you get unstuck.

Check spark, check fuel, pull your air filter... it's not fuel injected so you really only have 3 options for why it's not starting! Air, Gas or Spark, one of them has gotta be failing.

There isn't a lot in the way of protection under the truck, possibly a crimped exhaust...you say theres fuel, and you have a snorkel (check that it is indeed sucking air into it)...that leaves spark..plug wire pulled off or coil wire from jammed up snow

thanks again fella's!! well we have bitterly cold temps and a wind chill advisory here last night and today but i finally have someone coming over tonight to help me get it in the shop to see whats going on.

i can't thank those of you who helped enough.to me forums are one of the best things available for information.

i will report back with what i have found to be the problem.thanks again!!

Sounds like it is not getting fuel. Maybe its froze up. Try some gas line anti freeze. Usually when something quits like this its some thing simple.

As some one has ditched one of these , mine is rear engine Subaru hit black ice last year at about 100 KPH into ditch backwards i went got pulled out. Drove to town opened the engine compartement had snow every where ran rough till it warmed up if you did the same i would suspect water (melted snow) got into something, like dist cap.I hit snow so hard n fast no way to get out :D the wheels must contact the ground to be able to drive, the one disadvantage to thier light wieght skimmed ove 3 feet of snow and sat on top of it. Was scarier than any amusement park ride. Some brilliant farmer in his big Ford 3/4 4x4 stopped yelled looks like your stuck then drove off. A dodge 1 ton dually 4x4 tied a rope to front and didn't even spin a wheel on the ice pulled me out. But I would look at water as the issue if you have gas and air. GOOD LUCK:rolleyes:

    thanks again guys

well i finally got some help getting the mini to the shop and my diesel pulled out.after all that i got some time to look at it.didnt have much time tonight but i was able to locate the red fusable link and could not get it to where i could do a voltage reading on it.the fuse and harness is attached to the body in a way i could not see how to remove the harness and clip to get an accurate reading.i removed the fuse and visually it looked ok.tomorrow i should have more time.

also wanted to add the snow we got here had some rain mixed in so it was not soft or wet snow.very hard.i should have stated prior to getting stuck i was creeping very slow through it and fell in the whole.after pulling it out there was no snow stuck or packed in anywhere.under carriage was bone dry

:eek: i couldnt help but bundle up and go outside to mess with it awhile.i was able to get the harness holding the fusable link free.with the key on i was able to get a small reading from both sides of the fuse.just to be sure for testing purposes only...i removed the fuse and made a small solid state jumper wire and put it where the fuse was, tried to fire it and nothing.so correct me if im wrong but that should have eliminated the fuse at fault..correct? i will run to the store in the morning and put a new one in anyways due to the top glass lid to the fuse was not there.

i could not help but run outside quik and try something.its driving me nuts!!

    hey guys,

very sorry for the delay.had to take care of some things and havnt been doing much.

this morning i went to the parts store and bought a new fusable link.installed it

pulled the air system apart and the filter was clean and the housing was bone dry.

pulled a plug out and it was wet so its getting fuel.however it is not getting spark.all the fuses in cab are good and getting power.

so now i have narrowed it down to no fire.any suggestions?

well to my surprise i went to check the distributor to find out it had almost fell out.i went to grab it and it fell out all the way.there was no bolt holding it in when i removed the access panel from the bed for a better look :(

worst part is i know nothing about firing order and so on.this is going to be a nightmare.i live out in the country and dont know to many people here yet due to moving recently :(

so is this my problem for no spark

Bingo!!!..I believe you have found the culprit..it fact I'd guarantee it...luckily the dist. is slotted and can only go back in the right way or 180 degrees off (at least I think it can go in both...possible the slots are designed to go in only 1 way) either way won't hurt...one will not run/start or run very rough..the other will run fine but need to have the timing corrected...if the dist. hold down bolt is missing make sure you get the right size..it will be metric

regarding firing order ...I think it's 1-3-2...not 100 percent...as long as the plug wires are still attached you should be good...let us know how you make out....oddly I have no info on firing order..but have found a post in Japanese that states it as 1-2-3 ...if you removed the plug wires let me know and I'll go play in the snow and check mine for you

    haha:D:D!!!

well i can finally say it runs great again.such a relief to find out it really wasn't that bad.i was nervous at first but dove in and tried it.

first attempt was 180 out.second try nailed it.fired rite off..and a little fine tuning and i went and made 3 full victory laps around my property;).

thanks again fupabox for all your help!! much appreciated:)
