It has no points. It has an electromagnetic pick-up coil. I don't know which year they changed. Depending if yours has electronic ignition or not will decide if you have vacuum advance and mechanical advance. If you have a vacuum line that goes to a plunger (YELLOW) on the distributor then you have vacuum and mechanical advance. Mechanical advance is usually done by a set of predetermined weights (RED) held close to the center by springs (BLUE). As RPM's increase centrifugical force pulls these weights away from center which in turn pushes on a cam that rotates rotor mechanism to advance timing. With vacuum advance well when you lose vacuum you advance timing.
I do agree. The manuals currently available leave some to be desired. THose should not make contact. They are for an electronic pickup which senses when the lobe gets to the pickup. No adjustment in there really, unless bits are loose. Are you checking your timing with the vac disconnected? I would definitely check your timing belt as well. if that jumped a cog you will have some interesting symptoms. Good news is your Suzi is not an interference engine, so you can spin the crank or cam without the belt on and not cause any damage.
Little Foot, thanks for that. I have enjoyed working on this truck. It's a trip down memory lane; dealing with carbs and distributors. To think I almost gave away my timing light a few years ago! Fupa, excellent file on ignition. I see it's a Daihatsu manual but sure looks like it is close to an exact match. I don't mean to ding Mr Danko too much. It's an excellent translation of a manual that just doesn't go deep enough into the systems for what I need. Thanks again guys. Kirk
interference engine This is Hoddie Hog I have a 94 suzuki and would like to know if it has a Interference or a non interference engine
