1 Ton in a HiJet

Discussion in 'Daihatsu Hi jet' started by Northern Tire and Auto, Jan 19, 2011.

  1. The actual weight was 2,025lbs and drove the truck about 3 miles to the garbage transfer station. So if you ever wondered how much your little truck can carry this is about it's limit.

Are you sure thats not the total weight including the truck? I see maybe 40 tires in there. Average weight of scrap tire is about 20lbs. impressive load though.

Well that beats my record of 1700lbs of elm last winter. Aren't you in Gimli??

  5. Nope, that was the actual weight in the truck. When I got to the transfer station they did a weight before and after. The tire total was 54 and there were some larger 14 ply 19.5 tires that weight around 60-70lbs. Me and another guy at the shop would have a contest who could get the most tires on a mini truck. 54, he won.

with air shocks on back it would prob take a lot more..the brakes wouldn't like it but they don't get to vote :) Neat pic

  9. It actually gets a little top heavy and going around corners is a little unnerving. On the way to the transfer station there is one large hill the truck has to climb. You let it scream in 3rd and as the RPM's drop quick shift to 2nd to the top at about 15mph. I wouldn't dare put any more in it. I was lucky we didn't mess up the rear axle or frame. If you popped the clutch out in 1st the front tires would leave the ground a touch. Our shop doesn't have to transport tires any longer so the truck is now on snow plow duty and we made a push bar for the front to move disabled cars and trucks. Last week we pushed a full size Chevy work van loaded with tools back to the shop , about 2 miles, on snow covered roads. One tough little truck.

Here is a photo of mine with one load of many that I made to the dump during a demolition I did this past summer.I would remove the side panels and pile on prefab 4x8 wall panels until the springs would bottom out. This is a photo of plywood and floor tiles. These little trucks amazing.
