Subi Headlights don't work

I have a 1990 Subi and the headlights and tail lights quit working. I thought the switch was buggered and had a mechanic friend check it out and there was no power to the fuse box for the headlights and tail lights. He jumpered from a live fuse to the head and tail light circuit and found that the switch was O.K. and everthing works. Is there a relay or something that is holding out the head and tail lights. We tried to jumper the head and tail light circuit and everthing worked except it killed the battery, my friend thought it may be backfeeding with the jumper. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

    Headlights

When I converted the headlights to Daytime runninng lights I discovered that the switch was switching the ground and the headlights always had power to them. Kinda of like an english car. This made testing confusing. Hope this helps.

    Headlight Problem

While the diagnostics were confusing once I realized the ground was being switched I just clipped my test light onto a hot wire allowing me to test for the ground. Your problem is most likely in the fuse box as the brake light is a different system from the headlights.
