Finally got my court date, June 10th. I've been carrying around a copy of the subsection of the HTA since I was stopped, but haven't been stopped since. Figures. No other incidents with the law either, but I did have a guy come up to me and tell me that my truck had cost him $100. Apparently he had seen my truck up ahead on the highway, and bet his buddy that it a VW. He lost.

I think all mini truck owners/drivers in Canada should be required to drive from the left seat. After all, it is a mini truck and you can reach the controls from the left seat.:p Let me add a variance--if your left arm is long enough to signal out the left window, then you are exempt from said rule.:D

Surely your court case will go in your favor. Good luck. Be sure to let us know if the "cop" appears in court. That is of course me assuming he/she is required to in your court system.

ya i would like to hear how it goes to. I know a relative got out of a speeding ticket because the cop did not show to dispute it.

although i would like you to win on the laws, not an officer failing to show up

Well, todays the big showdown in court. What a waste of time and money. I'll probably get a parking ticket because you can only put so much money into a parking meter, and you know how long it will take to get this thing done. Ah, our justice system at work. Should at least be fun. If they don't arrest me for being an anarchist for driving a vehicle with the steering wheel on the wrong side (G20 coming up) , I'll report back later.

It's a couple of hours later, and court is over. I showed the prosecutor the sub section of the law pertaining to turn signals, and she called up the cop. He was adamant that he was right, and it took a couple of minutes to get him to read it carefully. Then he was silent for a bit, and quietly stated, "you're right". DAMN right! Anyhow, it was thrown out. Thanks for two days lost wages, time and aggravation officer. Now to ride my motorcycle to The Yukon and Alaska.........

I GUARANTEE this cop will not only remember the day he was WRONG in court, but everyone in his department will know about it and ride him about it for a long time to come. No cop likes to go to court either, it's usually on their day off. And especially for a simple TRAFFIC violation that he thinks is right. I am suprised it went this far, the prosecutor should have read the citation when it showed up on his schedule and then read the code, and then dismissed it, saving your time, the courts time, his time, the cops time etc etc etc! Glad you prevailed! I bet after the ribbing subsides, other cops in the area will read the code and understand it better.

    RHD imposition by LEO

It is too bad that a civil suit could not be brought against the cop (or department) for lost wages on an outragiously incorrect ticket!

    N7MOG,

    Are you serious?

I'm very serious. Just because an officer of the law is on a macho trip, doesn't mean that in gross error of his duty he cannot be held accountable in some way.

HA HA HA! Thats funny! One more useless lawsuit to tie up the court system! THAT'S what we and everyone else needs! More tax dollars wasted on a already wasteful incident. What are you going to ask for? A million for pain and suffering? Get real, do you know what a cop makes? Its not Mc Donalds.

A "gross error", really? In a job where life and death decisions are made in a split second sometimes, you are making a comparison to a wrong traffic ticket?

Have you EVER screwed up at work? EVER misread something and thought for sure you were right? But had to eat a little crow when you found out you were wrong? Boy, I have! Should someone have sued you? We all screw up, to err is human right? Like I said before, its not just the officer who is responsible for this screw up. Why dont you sue the govt and bill writers for not writing the law clearer? The attorneys? etc etc....

Sorry if this sounded mean, didnt mean it to be so, just think that statement is a little silly. And now I think I wasted my time and yours giving a response, sorry and good luck....

I make comment so because of the frivaility of the whole subject. A doctor wins a lawsuit against a dentist for having to 'waste his time' waiting for a very late (pushed back) appointment, wherein the Dr. loses money by not being able to ply his own trade. I'm not an advocate of true anarchy, but I believe that there are way too many laws on the books covering common sense issues. A law in a cop's mind vs. what is really written is very hazardous in society. Driving on the right, as we do in these trucks, does not provide the safety issue that some politicians want to make it. The courts are the only place we can fight back. I'm done, and won't denigrate this thread any further.

i kinda back it in one way. that the department should have read through that whole law before going out and "cracking down" on it. might get them to read before writing again.

I hate to bring this thread back up, but a while ago I spotted a... it was a Nissan Gloria (RHD) and it had a vinyl sticker saying
"Warning - Right Hand Drive Vehicle"
I tried to flag him down and ask him about it, but he was clearly too good for me in my little truck. :p
    Interesting anyway.

Well, I haven't had any more issues with not having a sticker, but.... a friend of mine who works for Canada Post in their legal dept recently told me that he has a few upcoming court dates for right hand drive postal trucks in the Toronto area. Apparently they were pulled over earlier this year (spring) and the officers ticketed them for not having RHD stickers. So now we have two agencies (that our taxes pay for) fighting over an issue that doesn't exist. Gotta love the government.:frustration:
