Snow Plow Advice Needed

I have done a search on the forum to find out what is the best snow plow to put on a mini truck, I found just as many positives and negatives for each configuration, so it is hard to make a decision.

Is there any recommendations or experiences you would care to share it would help me out considerably. :D

    I have a 96 Daihatsu S110.

    Thanks

I am in the process of putting one on mine as well. I have a cycle country plow for my atv that has a beat up 48" blade on it. I ordered a 72" blade and am going to put that on. My plan is to fabricate (someone else with skills will do it) a front reciever that my push tube can be mounted to as well. I'll get a reciever winch mount for the winch. My main concern is the angle of winch cable, I'm not sure if the receiver mount will get the winch up high enough to have a good angle or not. I'm also planning on having the plow out in front of me a ways so I can see the blade from the seat. This doesn't help my cable angle problem any! I'll post how this turns out in case someone else doesn't have the coin for a blackline or what acidgear makes. Those look like quality stuff. If I didn't already have the money invested in what I got, I'd probably go that way.

Well I am partial to ours! We built it in response to plows failing when put on a mini truck. Vehicle weight over 900 lbs or so has a dramatic effect on an ATV plow. You can see some video of the plow here (excuse me for having it on a RZR)http://www.youtube.com/user/AC1DGEAR#p/a/u/1/gEpFF1Qurps Also more information can be found on our website. Coincidentally we are having a mid season sale!

glaplante31 thanks for the response. I am interested in seeing how you are able to mount the blade to your mini. Let me know how it turns out.

Acidgear: I checked out your website and didn't see any sale prices. Is the sale a certain percent off the regular price? Thanks for the response.

Anyone have a recommendation on whether to go with a 60" or 72" blade?

I have retail listed on my website...dealers have the sale price. I think they are down around $2200-$2300, contact the dealer linked on my page and get pricing from them. I would like to know your opinion after that. As for size I would go with a 72" blade, more coverage when angled. Thanks for the interest MNmini!

Anyone Know how the front 2" receiver hitch mounts onto a Daihatsu S110?

Will i have to do any welding?

    Anyone have a Blackline plow?

Ours bolt on but you can weld them on also.

Acid Gear's plows are the strongest & heaviest duty I've seen built with our applications in mind. I'm proud to be a dealer for their exceptionally well-engineered MT accessories.

    Here's a 72" Hydro system mounted-up on our 2009 Carry:

Joel will certainly do a good job of answering any of your questions but I'll be happy to back him up!

Hey Dan, how much snow can you push with that wide of a blade? I'm a little concerned that it might be too much and wonder if a 60" would do better?

That sure is a purdy truck! :D

Does the 60" cover the width of truck when angled?

I can't answer that one with 100% certainty because of all the plow trucks we've set-up, they've always been with 72" systems.

While this is slightly off-center, here's a front shot of the truck with 72" blade to give you an idea:

With the blade fully angled, I dont think a 60" blade would still cover the full width of a truck with off road 8" tires. We will investigate this further for a more definitive answer.

Keith - Thanks! The snow-pushing capabilities of mini trucks are impressive. I would prefer some truck owners with plows to chime in so as to not sound so biased. During big storms, you still want to "plow with the storm", especially heavy wet stuff. But for experienced owners that have plowed with a variety of other vehicles, I've heard lots of good feedback. What we really needed in the industry was a heavier duty plow. I've been a dealer for another product line for some time and had good results, but also some failures because their plow was originally designed for ATV's and adapted to heavier UTV's and mini trucks. While improvements have been made over time, Joel's plow system was engineered from day one to be mounted on a heavier vehicle (and the differences are obvious when comparing apples to apples). I dont think there will be any noticable performance-robbing characteristics when using a 72" blade over a 60" blade and you will have the added foot of clearing capability.

If you're in situations where you cannot plow with bigger storms, see high snowfall rates, or simply need to place the snow exactly where you need it, then you need this instead:

Sounds good to me. If I really get behind or we have a lot of drifting, I can always pull out the John Deere with the front end loader. :D

By the way Dan, I sent you an IM regarding buying some wheels.

Well I must say Dan the white wheels look great! And that bed lift...wow...nice. Sure would be great for dumping fire wood and such.
I'm glad to see the interest with our plows. Dan is correct about the design covering vehicles 900-1500 lbs. That's what we set out for from the start. Currently our plows are working from Alaska, Canada, the NE and through the Midwest. Some of the toughest snow producing areas. Here in West Michigan we get our fair share so there was plenty to test with. Myself and others involved in the design and manufacture of these have plowed snow for decades, we know what it takes. More over we always have the end user in mind. As far as a 72" vs. 60" I would go with a 72". Price is the same for either size...we recommend this size for mini trucks. The 60" is a good size for the UTV, side by side vehicles. Our website has one mounted on a Big Red we sold this past winter. In fact 95% of all design and testing was done with a Polaris RZR. A 60" blade fully turned to one side pushing heavy snow has a tendency to not clear the wheels of a mini. Makes me sad to see the snow go!

Would like to hear from people who have installed and used the snow plows already. Winter will be here again before we know it.

Yeah, I need to get moving on my "snow solution" quick. As long as it takes me to do stuff! :frustration: :D

Just ran across this thread... it looks like there's a couple of guys from Minnesota in here :) I cannot highly recommend Eagle plows enough. They are a MN based company who does all their work in house and the prices can't be beat! I paid about $700 for my 72" plow and push tube, the thing is built like a tank and it was 4 days from the time they got my payment to the time it arrived at my house. The company has been an absolute pleasure to deal with and their product is perfect for my truck.

If you have any questions or whatever check out my build thread and if you still have questions ask away, I'm happy to share whatever little amount of knowledge I've gained so far with the community!

Yeah, I actually do enjoy plowing quite a bit :) Gives me an excuse to get out of the house... good music to listen to, often my 4 year old comes with me and I love the looks I get from guys struggling to push snow in their fullsize trucks when I go zooming by :D

Here's my new Blackline I got this past winter. Hooks right into my 2in reciever hitch. Couldn't be easier. Pushed about 10in of some very heavy snow with it and worked pretty good. Definately works for what I need it for and easy as heck to put on and off.
