I'm driving a Mazda Titan. It's a 1.5 metric ton, with a 2.5 litre diesel. I am considering installing some kind of towing setup. That will have to be custom, as the Titan lacks a hitch. I am curious how much I could pull. I know it can carry a fair bit, but that must differ from what it can pull. I was hoping to pull a small camper. I am not a camper expert, but assume a small 10 or 12 footer must be at least 2000 lbs (approx. 900 kg). Any advice would be appreciated.
how much can you load onto your titan as is? i can do 750kg easy so i assume i could pull that easy to. nice thing about being a big truck like yours is that you have better stopping abilities btw where in sk are ya?
That's the thing, I don't know enough about trucks and carrying or pulling capacity. Just because a truck can carry a certain amount, does that mean it can pull it too? I need to learn more about Titans.

Since then, some jerk cracked my windsheild. I'm afraid to find out how much that will cost me. I need to stop the fresh air intake, as it makes for very cold winter driving. It seems the Titan was designed with constant fresh air coming in from the front. This year I will have to go in from the outsde front and make changes.
Thats a damn sexy truck! I would think you should be able to tow at least as much weight as you can carry with a proper hitch. The 2.5L is not a powerhouse so whether you would actually want to tow near your limit is another question. If you were going to be doing a lot of heavy towing especially up hills and giving the engine a good workout I would invest in a pyrometer so you can keep watch of your EGTs.
Ya, the 2.5 is not a powerhouse. I have no idea what a pyrometer is, or what EGTs are. I am still tempted to tow up to 1000 KG.
Do these things just strap on the end of the exhaust? Expensive? My truck is pretty wound out as it is when I drive at 115 kph, but the engine emp (according to the guage) stays real nice and low. I imagine that driving sensibly (80 to 90 kph) would be recommended for towing a little camper.
I installed an aftermarket pyrometer on my f350 diesel and if I remember it was aound $200 with the gauge (ebay)..they typically mount as close to the engine block ( between engine and turbo ) as possible..you want to know the temp at it's hottest point...was a simple install drill and tap the hole run the wires to the gauge and ign. on power source
Wow cool! Well my 2.5L turbo diesel once upon a Time... Was 180HP at 300 ft-lbs towing capacity, 5000lbs. but yer thing has dual wheel rear axle! I like!
I wish I knew what stuff like, "300 ft-lbs towing capacity, 5000lbs" meant. I guess I am just not all that truck knowledgeable. I don't recall what my horsepower might be.
