bad stench and roller coaster idle

Picked up my new (to me) mini truck last week. It's a 99 suzuki carry, fuel injected. Came with a 2" lift ATP rims and Carlisle all trail rubbers. These things are like a bad drug. Hard to get away from the thing. This forum is an absolute god send for me. Thanks to suggestion on here I found the dual xr4110 stereo at walmart and 2- 4" speakers for 65 bucks. Installed it in an hour and a half. I was lucky that I have factory speaker cut outs in the corners of the dash, made it a piece of cake. The little 4"ers don't sound the greatest but can't complain. I am 6'3" and was thinking I made a mistake not getting a jumbo. I solved that by simply removing the seat back on the driver side, I gained me at least 3 inches of Knee space!!

I have two issues I have done searches on without success. 1) There seems to be a stench I can't get rid of. I removed the ductwork from the fan to where it gets its outside air and cleaned it up. It smelled pretty bad. that helped alot but still smell it by the radiator. Is this some industrial smell from Japan?
    2) The truck has a roller coaster idle after I go for a ride. Idles fine when first started and will settle down after a ride if left to idle for 5 or 10 minutes. I put some seafoam in the gas yesterday, don't know if that will help or not. Thanks for any suggestions

Well, I can't help you with the smell, but I'm wondering if a vacuum hose is cracked of fallen off.

I know vacuum leaks can do just what you are describing on the idle.

Worth a good look with a flashlight anyway.

Trucks got 55,000 kms on it. Not a clutch smell. It smells like a mixture of cow manure and some kind of industrial smell you would have at a factory? I've cleaned the interior very well. I'm not sure how to remove the fan in the ductwork, but that will be my next step since the smell is there whether I'm recirculating the cab air or bringing in outside air. I even put 2 stick ups in the duct, not much help.

Lol. Manure smell - costs extra. If you didnt pay for it, you got a bargain.

Spray Febreze EVERYWHERE. In the vents, fresh air intake, seats, EVERYWHERE.

Having not played with a fuel injected truck, in addition to a vacuum problem, could be idle air controller, MAF, fuel pressure, etc.

I am betting some small creature died in your duct work. If you can not find it now, it will eventually dry up and the smell will take care of itself.:pop: It could be a painful wait for that to happen:eek:

    Good luck.

Yep, the rat died. Wait a week and put up with the stink. Then get a bag of charcoal (yes the kind u barba q with and spread it on the floor boards, close the windows and doors for about 2 days, remove charcoal, smell gone. Did this with a ice box once after the electricity went out. I was gone for 2 weeks. I could smell the stink from my mail box. Clean everything out, wiped down the inside with lemon juice, stuck a bag of charcoal inside, 3 days later couldnt smell any stink anymore.

I'll fill the whole cab with Kingsford if it will help!

Sounds like possibly a Throttle Position Sensor has possibly gone bad if the truck is over-reving (almost like the throttle cable is stuck). I would check the throttle cable first to make sure there is no binding. If that seems fine, then unplugging the TPS will be a sure sign if the problem goes away when unplugged.

4the smell I would borrow a ozone machine they work good. I inheirited a car from my aunt Renee who was a smoker. Put the machine I borrowed from a car dealer in an by morning the smell was gone

vacuum leaks are 85% of carb and idling problems, use a vacuum gauge or carb cleaner, carb cleaner will send the engine to high idle if you have a vacuum leak, make sure the vacuum port in the air cleaner canister is working properly, also check that your vacuum advance hose isn’t cracked coming off the distributor to the vacuum manifold tree. The vacuum manifold tree is brass on the bottom to go in to the block and plastic on top. Plastic wears out with time and will break or leak, which causes a vacuum leak. Some manifold vacuum trees are 3 or 4 port, make sure to replace it with a new one. When I buy parts I buy 3 at a time that way I have them on hand or in case they can’t get them any more. The vacuum manifold tree is located behind the carb. If you looking at the carb from the right side of the bed, it will be to your 1 O’clock tucked down inside. Remember to use a marker or different colored tape to mark the vacuum lines so you know where everything goes back too! Good luck!’
