25" Grim Reapers (3"+ Lift)

Just finished the lift on my 95 Zuk. 3" lift, 250# afco coils, add a leaf & shackle extensions. Netted just a little over 4" with the addition of the coils and shackle extensions. Lowered the differential 2" and refabricated the crossmember for driveshaft clearance. To re-center the front wheels, we made a z-bend in the radius arms and extended them by 1-1/4". I have not trimmed the wheel wells and so far there is no tire rubbing on them. They do occasionally catch the mudflap and I'll take care of that by heating them and reforming them a little bit. I want to thank Dave Swisher & Bill Mullett for their time, ideas and talent in figuring this all out.

Very nice. If you wore the new military camo pattern BDUs while driving, no one would see you or the truck. ;) Nice job.

    That looks great!
Give us a performance update for both on and off road...I want to know if it works as good as it looks

Off road performance is awsome. The tires have great flotation and incredible grip. I've tested it through the mud, water, over logs, over rocks and across the plowed field without it ever breaking traction. I have a 3/4 mile long gravel driveway (with lots of pot holes) that I can fly up and down. With this suspension and tire combination, I go boing, boing, boing but I'll gladly take that over the blam, blam, blam that I had with stock :D. As for on road performance, again, these tires have incredible grip and for that reason I would only spend limited time on pavement (it's hard to turn and a lot of road noise). When I get a chance, I'm going to throw on my street tires to see how she handles. All in all, I'm very happy with the results.

Thanks Ken let us know how the street tites work on thr highway
Im looking at your spacer and wondering if the same idea will work on a 1992. Im not seeing where your spacer goes when i look at my truck.
    Thanks for the great post!

I sure could use a template for your radius arms

I started mine before I saw these, so what I have done is make mine adjustable using a swedge tube. I cut the rod in two, and had one end threaded with 5/8-18 LH threads, and the other end 5/8-18 RH so I can adjust it exactly where I want it. I'll post pics on Monday.

    Cheers,
    Rob

If I had a template I'd gladly share but it was a trial and error attempt, fortunately with little error. We were going for a full 2" z-bend but got 1-3/4" on the first one. Called it good and bent the second to match. :D

I was going to do the swedge tube, but I didn't like the binding that I was going to get from the straight rod. I did get adjustability, but not as easy as what you'll have (I'll have to add washers if I want to push the tires back any farther). Fortunately, with the 1-1/4" extra length, it put the wheels right where I wanted them. So far, knock on wood, I have not had to trim the fender wells at all.:p
I look forward to seeing your pics.

Truck ken how whats does the bend measure on the rods? Also did you lower the bracket? NICE TRUCK!

The overall drop is 1-3/4". We determined after doing the lift that we needed an extra 7/8" in length to center the wheels. Suprisingly, we only lost 3/8" when the z-bend was completed. We cut and welded in a 1-1/4" spacer on the flat part of the rod to get our 7/8" over stock length and it worked out perfectly. We also factored in a little bit of twist to match the angle of the control arms. We didn't lower the brackets at all. One of my goals (although I'll probably never do it) was to be able to take everything back to stock if I wanted to. Everything that I've done is removable and with the exception of the radius rods themselves, nothing would need to be replaced.

I have a 98 Suzuki, and plan on doing something similar to yours Ken. Couple quick questions for you.

Where did you buy your lift?

Where did you find the wheels, and what back spacing are they?

Does the truck still have enough power to run 35mph or so with these 25" tires? We have some really long county roads we have to travel at my hunting camp, so I want to keep a decent top speed.

    Lift kit ?

Truck - Ken, i have a 95' suzuki and wanted to do the same thing you did to your mini. NICE JOB!. I have the 25" grim reapers also and wanted to know where you got the lift kit from? What length (inch) AFCO spring did you use to add just the inch in high in addition to the 3" lift in thefront? you indicated you used the add a leaf with shackle extensions. did you put the shackle extensions on in additon to the leaf, is there a certain length shackle I am looking for?? I am ready to add a lift my truck and can do the modifications you did to elimate the CV problem. Please let me know and thank you for the pictures, this really helps me in adding my lift kit.

I used the 3" lift kit from xroads. I managed to get an extra inch by using the heavier springs (this may have been because the stock springs had "relaxed" a bit). They are the same length as the original...just heavier. I didn't decide to lengthen the the shackles until I had everything else done. The rear was an inch low after I got the rest of the lift done so I made new shackles that were 2" longer to give me the inch that I needed. You may need a different amount of lift in the back or none at all. Whatever the amount is that you need, just multiply by two and add that to the stock shackle length.
