    92 Daihatsu hijet

Needs FM radio. What can i do here.
Already took the AM out to have a look, itsTINY.
Looked around for something to fit in this confined space.
    No luck.Anyone have any ideas.
Only other thing i have come up with is building an overhead console and mounting stereo in it.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,Mike

Same here. For the life of me, it must be in my blood, I cannot put myself through cutting a factory panel to make something fit that was not supposed to fit in the first place. My biggest problem on these trucks is cutting the wheel opening for bigger tires. I feel like it makes the truck worthless after its been done. (just my opinion).

i did cut the dash once, put a cd player in my first 80 chev truck. was not fun and was never right no matter how much trimming or patching i did. (they had the old double holes for the knobs to stick through on the stock radios)

    yeah but

Theres no more room behind it.The heater ducting is there.
And i really didn't want it sticking out 2 inches.
    Any other ideas??Thanks,Mike

I would use an overhead console. You can get them for under $100. Just google overhead radio console.

Use Marine Box & mount on Floor!

I bought a Marine Mount Box with Door on Front and mount on floor under where existing radio was and covered the hole where the old radio was with a piece of aluminum tread plate cut to size and used an extension to the ant and straight wired to battery. Worked out OK!

  8. Someone posted a link on here for a FM radio that would replace the factory AM one. Same style setup with the 2 pins. I think it was from Walmart for around $30.

  9. Some of the trucks came with a am, and a fm radio, fm on the top of the dash on the consule. You may be able to get a factory fm radio Diahatsu consule from somewhere, a regular cd radio am/fm will fit in those I put one in mine where the top fm was on the weekend and left the am where it was in the dash.

The Japanese fm frequencies start out at 72 and go to about 89.9 that is why I changed mine out.

Or maybe like someone else mentioned buy a aftermarket one to fit somewhere else, build a box inbetween the drivers and passengers feet if you have no a/c.

  10. ah, I cannot read problem solved. Oh well one for the archives.

    Dual XR4110

I have purchased a Dual XR4110 stereo. It is a mechless am/fm stereo with mp3, sd card, and usb inputs. It has no cd player so it is only 4-1/2" deep. I bought it at Wal-Mart for about $40.00. I have not installed it yet but have removed the old AM radio and it seems to fit fine. I am still playing with where to install the (2) new 4" speakers. As soon as I install it I will post some pics.

should take a look of the old wiring clip that you unhooked from the original radio and go to walmart and try to find a wiring harness. easiest and simplest way to hook up a new radio!

Heres the thread on the Dual Radio ...

After I saw this, I went to Wally World and purchased it as well ... I have not installed mine yet either .. Bit cold in the garage lately ....

Didn't want one with CD because of the dust and garbage the will accumulate while driving in the field .. However, I can take my MP player or SD and plug in my favorite tunes .. Doesnt take any room like a bunch of CD's can do..

    Dual Radio installation

    Good luck ....

With all the reviews on the Dual XR4110 I thought I had found the fix, last night after searching 3 different Walmarts I finally found one, But it will not work in my 93 Hijet. The AM is 2-1/2" deep & the XR4110 is 4" .. I can go 3" but that's the limit. .... still looking.

Do a search for the xr4110, fupabox did something to the back of his to fit it in his hijet.

It will fit in..you just need to remove the top plate from the stereo (4 screws) and bend the top of the rear of the deck towards the front..(bottom has just enough clearance) then replace the top plate after trimming a bit off the back end...wish I had taken some pics but I did it at 4 in the morning in my driveway in the snow (couldn't sleep,or sit still that night:sly:) once you have the top off the chassis you will see how much the unit can be monkeyed with ..without worry of harming the guts of it..there is virtually nothing inside...

It will definetly fit now, I used the insert as a template and cut the radio down to to the size of the insert.
I marked the radio with a pencil then cut it off with tinsnips, the circuit board is attached to the back of the radio. When i cut the section off I drew out tabs to leave 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top plate then bent them over. I used the 4 original screw holes in the back plate, marked and drilled new holes in the tabs. The back plate is attached same as it was out of the box .... wah lah. All I need to do now is install it tomorrow.

Yea plenty of room inside, they could have made one to exact size theirself but I guess they wanted to see if we could modify things.

come on guys you can put an aftermarket head unit an amp and a box with 1 pair of 6 1/2 components in a standard cab, plus more if needed, surely you can use your imagination. lol i have a couple of pics, i will take some more sometime
