1990 Suzi DB51T brake shoes..

After much cussing and general frustration, I figured out the binding I was getting in reverse was due to the right rear shoe lining coming off the shoe and thus free to cause havoc in the drum. I did locate the proper shoes from some of the suppliers on here but I needed them now so I took the shoe to my auto parts store. Guess what? The 1990 Suzuki Swift shoes looked like dead ringers so home I went.

The following should never be tried by anybody, at least nobody who likes to lawyer up when they can't take the blame for their own actions! - but I don't mean that in a bad way.... just don't blame me if you do the same stupid things I do and get different results.

Well, I got the shoes mounted and springs sprung without too much drama. It turns out, however, the tab that fits into the slot on the wheel cylinder is longer than stock so the drum won't go on, i.e. the diameter of the shoes is larger than the inner drum. That is when the redneck in me kicked in and sent me to the bench grinder. I ground the tabs down until they seemed the same as the originals and refit them. After several rounds of this I got it to work.

I now have new shoes for $17 instead of $60. I think that was the hardest $43 bucks I ever 'earned' by the time I figure research and grinding as well as several tries on each side.

The moral of the story? If you gotta have rear brakes right now and have access to a bench grinder, go get a case of beer, order the right ones on-line, and wait for the mail to come.
