    Congrats Milt!

I haven't been on the forum nearly as much recently dues to our 5 month old bundle of joy. So you may wanna post *extra* often while you've got the time!

Mr. Mom is a ton of fun. I do it quite often, and it's so rewarding!

Best of Luck! Can't wait to see your future Microvan after you've had about 5 years of tinkering in the garage!

Congrats on finding out your being blessed beyond your wildest dreams. I might add to the lessons above( many years and 6 kids experience talking) you are now becoming a second class citizen. Mama will let you know, NO is something you will have to learn very quickly. Hurry up the baby is crying is next. Learn these quickly, and get a remote for the TV, and a good supplies of batteries. the noise from the TV will help the baby sleep, and you will to change channels a lot looking for something to keep you awake when you try to lay the baby back in her bed.
Although, with the first child when the inlaws and out laws come to visit, and YOUR holding the baby, they will literally jump through hoops to get you something so that you wont have to get out of the chair while holding the baby. That will not last long though, they will find out the baby can go from person to person with out to much fuss. Also, (seriously) you and the wife take a night out even if for a few hours weekly and remember who you two are. When the baby goes to bed in the evening, that precious time until you retire for the evening is your time. ENJOY it.
Again, congrats, mine are all grown, and gone from home in college or married, and I would love to have all of them back here underfoot. BY the way, my wife and I are still laughing over the 11 lessons. How true, how true

    Congrats Milt,
We have 3 boys a 14,12,and a 11 month old:eek:. A year or so ago I would have said great you will enjoy being a dad. That is I forgot how must fun babies are. That happens when the cute babies grow up to be teenage boys:frustration:. But know with our youngest and us being well more mature. It is over the top great. I would like another one. My wife said three is all she is good for. I will keep working on her.
The ultrasounds really get cool. They have new 3d stuff now.

we got a 3D look last week, i can't believe what they can do now!! it was pretty early to really see much but jen had to go in for a small emergency that wasn't bad news after all, just a good scare.

only two months into this and i've chewed off all my nails, by the time the kid is born i'll be down to the second knuckle on my fingers

yeah that's what i was afraid of... but this isn't our first Ultrasound and we already had an idea early on tho the US tech wouldn't confirm. now it looks like it is for sure.. the girl said 99.9% sure

but then again, there is nothing i'm so sure of i would bet my dick on a chopping block

either way, boy or girl, they're gonna be a bad ass wrench :D

    AND YOU KNOW THIS!!

Just wanted to say congrats! Life as you knew just ended , but that's not a bad thing. You wont sleep much for several years , if ever again but it's worth it. My son who is 10 now got his first pimple the other day and believe it or not that is another landmark in his and our families life. I would say try and take pleasure in everything you do with the little guy even the diaper changes. It goes fast and its the best ride you can take. Dont spoil him to the point that he is helpless, alot of parents do that now-days and it is very very easy to do. Tell him you love him everyday and never stop.

ok, so to make a long story longer...

last sunday when my dad was over helping paint the nursery jen came home from the store and said her blood pressure was a little higher than normal. once isolated incident didn't bother me since we had a scheduled baby dr. appt. the next day.

when we got to the dr. monday afternoon her BP was 180/110. we were immediately sent to the hospital and she was admitted with preeclampsia.

it was quickly determined that she would not be going home pregnant and the question was "how long can she wait"? she was at 34 weeks & full term is 40 weeks... not too far off, but 6 weeks is a long time for a baby. they immediately put her on meds to keep her from having seizures and tried three different meds to lower her BP but none really worked. i have a lot going on at my welding shop right now & with her family around her she sent me on my way. by lunch tuesday, while i was at the shop, they were trying to induce.

they broke her water with no results, then started her on meds to induce.. still no results. they weened her off one then back on it. finally at 7am on wednesday she was ready and they called the dr. with just a few good pushes i saw my baby boy for the first time.

they had a whole crew on hand for preemies. they took him to the table on the other side of the room, cleaned him up, then brought him back. that seemed like a really good sign. after a couple snap shots they took him to NICU and i followed.

he was extremely lethargic (from the magnesium phosphate jen was on for the seizures) to the point that he was able to breathe, but couldn't muster the energy. they gave him a shot of caffein (just like his dad needs) to try and get him going. it didn't work and before i knew he was intibated and on a ventilator, IV hooked up, blood pressure cuff around his ankle and a few other things.

it broke my heart to see him like that, but i was just happy he was breathing.

by about 10pm they had weened him off most of the oxygen and the respirator was only assisting 15 out of 40 breaths per minute. by the time i was leaving at 5am for work on thursday they had pulled the breathing tube and i heard my baby boy cry for the first time.. it was quiet and more like a whimper but i finally heard his voice.

jen was too far out of it from the meds that she didn't even see the boy for the first two days. she finally made it up last night for the first time and got to hold him, feed him a bottle and later feed him naturally. she just kept appologizing for being gone the first 2 days... but i'm sure he understands.

today they released jen and i brought her home an hour ago and hopefully if all goes well the boy will be home next week or the week after. he's really improving quickly and is now just laying there under some fancy lights to take care of the jaundice. jen was in tears because they sent her home and she couldn't take the boy with her... but it's all for the best.
