This is my first time posting, but I have been lurking for a few days now.:sly: I have really enjoyed reading the posts... I have learned so much! Anyway... my question is this. As far as I can tell, none of the mini trucks can be made street legal on federal roads in the US and it seems as if the LiteAce cannot be imported for any reason. Is there any truck available here in the US (or that can be imported) and driven legally on the roads? I really like the cab-forward design of these trucks and the great gas mileage. I would like to purchase one as a daily driver back and forth to work. My route to work is about 18 miles and is partially over a federal interstate highway. Do I have any options? thanks in advance for any advice Steven
I am one of a handfull of guys on here that have reg'd mini trucks... I use my trucks for daily use. I am one of very few that are registered in Califorina.
Thanks Griz and gumball for the replies I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX metroplex Texas currently does not allow the mini trucks on the road and they apparently have no plans to allow them unless the federal government allows them (according to this thread) What I am mainly wondering is if there is any chance of importing the larger ones (like the LiteAce), since they aren't classified as kei-class. From what I have seen they can't, but just wondering if anyone heard something different. This is really frustrating that our government won't allow such fuel efficient vehicles to be used! :frustration:
I am under the impression that if you buy one with a pink slip you should beable to register it in your state... for example if you buy one of mine you should beable to bring it home and register it at your local DMV legally.
Street legal in Mississippi In Mississippi you take your Bill of Sale and get a "title Bond" about $100.00. Then you take both the Bill of Sale and the Title Bond to the Hyw Patrol and get a Street Worthy certificate. Then you take all 3 docs to the County Tax Collector office and you can get a tag and a title and VIN number. You can drive on any type of road you want to including any Interstate. I choose to stay off of the Interstate except when towing.
I am really disgusted that the largest user of mini trucks, the US government. Preaches to us about how we should be driving vehicles with better fuel mileage. Then will not allow us to have/use them. There are dozens of them at the Artesia, NM Fed training academy and all the national parks. If Mister Obama were sincere he would push getting these vehicles legalized along with cars like the VW LUPO. It is about time we took back personal reponsability instead of letting the government protect us cradle to grave with crash standards and such.
even from a Canadian's point of view, smaller more fuel efficient vehicles should be allowed to be imported. I do not see chev/ford/dodge/whatever bringing in small compact efficient trucks/mpv for the market. they want you all to drive the big gas guzzlers.. /end rant
