What does everyone use to align the clutch with the pilot bearing so that the gearbox imput shaft slips into the pilot bearing?

Look at post #3 of this thread - you might want to call Trax and Horns and talk to their mechanic.........later, slim

Thanks, I will try to get a Geo Metro tool. The universal one that I looked at were too bog to fit into the pilot bearing. The Suzuki has a real bearing not a bushing !

I didn't use a tool and just moved the parts a little here 'n there while mating up the tranny/bellhousing to the block. I did use a long woodworking clamp to pull the two parts together which made life easier.

    Alignment Tool

I took the clutch plate into my local machinist and miked input shaft. I gave him the measurements and he gave me back an alignment tool out of aluminum about fifteen minutes later. Twenty bucks and a cold beer was well worth it every time I have to do the task. dutchman

    clutch alignment trick

I found that a Canadian tire Mastercraft 11/32 hex socket with the 3/8 inch drive worked perfect.
The hex end fits snuggly into the 10 mm pilot bearing and the shank fits exactly inside of the clutch disk hub.
This method worked as good as any specialty tool.:)

    Nice tip!

Princess auto has a universal tool with several ends that also works, however if you already have the hex, no need to buy another weapon.

I bought a universal clutch alignmenmt tool that was supposed to work for a Geo Metro...however none of the attachments came close to working, so I returned it.

I ended up using a 1/4 drive extension with a ??mm socket on the end, worked perfect! Cant remember the size of the socket, it was metric... Im thinking a 12mm but thats only a guess and probably not right ;)

The pilot bearing has a 10 mm ID. Same as the OD of the hex end of the socket.
I never measured the clutch disk hub ID. It did fit snuggly onto the socket.
