Does anyone else have a carry that ticks? valve noise?

Do all Suzuki's tick tick tick? Oil is good. Anyone have exhaust leaks? I'll tear into this one in the next week, But it runs fine, and I'd rather leave it alone.

I've had a few that sound this way, but the one in question is louder.

    What is it?

i had questioned my valve clearange several times, especially when cold. i noticed it's only until i disengage the clutch. once i put my foot on the pedal the noise gets condiderably quieter. now i question if it's the t/o bearing, the presrrue plate or a thrust bearing on the crank. but it still runs like a striped a$$ ape and feels real solid... mine is a diahatsu tho

I can hear Throw-out bearings on all of them, once you let the clutch out in neutral. The sound I have is "denser(?)"

    sounds "valvey"

Like a bad lifter on an old 305 late 70's Chevy.

ok, gotcha, the sound of a lifter not "pumping up" is a bad one, mine is more of a "ticky-whiring" kinda noise... until i hear the t/o bearing SCREAM when i push the pedal i figure it's ok.

i've seen t/o bearings come apart and it's ugly... thankfully after learnig to row through a 15 speed over/under in a peterbilt without a clutch i can handle a 5 speed mini if i lose a t/o bearing :D

Just an FYI, valve specs on a 660CC 4 valve F6A Suzuki are .003 intake , .006 exhaust - cold engine. The exhaust are a little tricky to set due to the valve train arrangement. My truck had some ticking when I bought it and I found the valves to be slightly out of adjustment, you are going to hear the valve train in these engines, even properly set.

I overhauled my engine when I first got it, and with the solid valvetrain, there is always going to be some noise. My adjustment lasted about 2 months before it started clicking again. I think it's just something you have to accept with this type of vehicle. Frequent adjustments.

Maybe someone on here can make some roller rockers for kei trucks!?

Some rotary valves would be awesome as well!

not related to valve ticking, but the fuel pump on my truck makes a very loud ticking sound, about 2 second intervals, luckily once you are moving on the road, the rest of the road noise drowns it out

On newer cars, the idle-speed control valve (ISC) can also makes a ticking as it gets older. The ISC is an electric solenoid that serves as a pulse-width modulator to meter air to the plenum at idle. In other words, what the idle air jet does on a carb.

On some versions of the F6A, it's a little dark green or black box with a wire sticking out of it on the back of the intake plenum with air lines attached to it. The ticking is the sound of the pintle slapping against its seat as the rubber seal wears out, and it sounds suspiciously like loose valves. If it's the ISC, the ticking should go away as you give it some throttle. Replacement ISCs can be expensive. I've heard of one guy rebuilding his but they are not designed to be serviced.

all of my Metro motors ticked. and they do have hydraulic lifters

The F6A has an overhead cam. Overhead cam engines never have hydraulic lifters. The exhaust valve on the 4 valve F6A engine is a pain to set. The feeler gauge goes between the cam and the rocker. Most other engines the measurement is taken between the valve stem and rocker.

Actually, most modern OHC automobile engines have hydraulic lifters with a few notable exceptions: the Nissan VQ and VR-series V-6s, for example. True, in recent years automakers have been slowly moving back to solid lifters in selected high performance applications to reduce valvetrain mass and make possible higher redlines and specific outputs, but the hydros still well outnumber the solids.

Mine ticks as well, even after adjusting the lash. Keep in mind these engines are economy versions.. sized up Briggs and Strattons...

Also, a small exhaust leak at the head/manifold junction can emulate a valve noise tick. Took me awhile to find it, and only after I adjusted the valves, I noticed some bolts had loosened up on the manifold, causing a tiny leak. Sounded EXACTLY like valve ticking..!

    i have a 1994 mitsubishi mighty max 4cyl 5speed
it ticks intermittently, it will tick for 5 minutes then stop or for my whole drive, its pretty sharp but the engine doesn't run any different, it sounds like an exhaust leak (i had a 4runner that did this also) but even when it gets warm you can still hear it

Mine has that kind of a ticking/rattling but only when I'm pushing on the throttle. At idle or with my foot off the pedal when driving, it doesn't make the noise no matter what the rpms are. Even when it revs on a down shift, there's no ticking until I apply some throttle. Any ideas on the cause of this? I tightened all the manifold bolts and the manifold to cat conv bolts when i punched out the cat and replaced the muffler. I'm not sure if the ticking got quieter or not.
