Found out tonight that the low beam on the left side is out. Do I have to replace the whole light or just a bulb? Anyone have any experience with this yet? Thanks
i'd tell ya how to do it if i thought you would understand... buy your buddies a couple sixpacks and let them do it
The reason I asked about the year was that I know that the 98 HA4 like I have has a replacable lamp in the headlight housing. But the older body style(Pre 1990) lookes like it uses a round sealed beam.
Found a replacement bulb Hi guys, My low beam bulb went out to the other day and I found at Napa a 9003 replacement DOT bulb. It is the same as the H4 except not for off road. I found on the web that these will work for as a replacement if you need dot approved. I think you can take a couple screws out and pull the headlight to replace it. Any one done it yet? I'm trying it today after coffee...
Here's how to replace the lamp on a HA4. The eariler models may be slightly different. Take out the two swrews that hold the parking/turn signal light assembly and allow it to hang down. You may need to twist and remove the parking light socket to get the assembly out of the way. Take off the three 10mm nuts that hold the headlight in. Pull the plug off and remove the rubber boot. Loosen or remove the small phillips head screw that holds the wire bale down and lamp should come right out. Install new lamp and clean it with alcohol, put the boot on and plug it in. Re-assemble in reverse of above. The factory lamp is H4 but is not DOT approved for on road use. If you're driving it off road it's fine. On road use requires 9003.
Well here's the thing. We took the 2 screws off the front of the headlight and could'nt figure how to get the headlight out. Something was still attached..We went underneath and removed to mud guard so we could get to the other bulbs but that did'nt help either. Finally my husband studied the headlight and found that it has a metal pin which holds the lower part of the headlight in the correct position. This pin will snap loose when you pull the headlight housing towards you. You have to pull hard for it to come out. He thought he would break something but it does snap out after you remove the two screws. After replacing the bulb, you have to insure the pin enters the correct hole and snaps in before reinstalling the two screws..Five minute project took 2 hours to figure out..I'm begining to think every truck is different so don't quote me on this unless you have a 2001 Suzuki carry. Good luck
I replaced the bulb my self...................... I am so proud. It only took 3 hours for me to figure it out and when I was finished. The truck started back up. Who would have thought it was possible. Not me
That's so funny..Was yours the type that pops out like ours? Congrats on your conquest...I know how you feel..
Hey guys, I'm havin trouble removing my headlights too. I've read the posts above and want to clarify something. I took off the 2 screws holding in the side marker light. Do I remove the wiring to that side marker at this point or do I just let her hang for now? The socket is really hard to get to still. My headlights have a thin plastic trim. How do I remove this? I've got it pretty loose but there are at least 2 more clips that I can't get to. Is this when I'm supposed to yank on it to unclip? It feels like it will break. What's the trick to this? Thanks.
Thanks for the walkthrough! I know this is an old thread, but just went through on my new '92 and got it done in about 20 minutes thanks to reading your walkthrough. I'm sure I would have spent a while worrying about snapping some tab somewhere other wise. Cheers!
