efi control modules

Has anyone thought about an efi control module to add power like the ones available for utv's. I imagine the hard part would be to get an adapter plug to plug them in without the wire splicing. Does anyone have any experience with these or know the specifics involved?

It would be real easy to put EFI on a mini truck. Get a throttle body off of a Geo Metro and use this for the controller. http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html
Probabaly have to adapt the TBI to the intake and install a high pressure pump but yout typical TBI has most everything (idle sol, map sensor, and throttle position sensor). Bet it could be done for less than $500

I'm not sure that I am following your conversion. I'm talking about taking a truck that is already efi and tuning it a little to get more hp.

I am not sure what the modules on UTV's actually do.

I think they are extremely specific to the application though. I doubt you could splice one in that wasnt mapped specifically for your engine and make it work.

Now, with the megasquirt, like barney suggests, you can program your own curves, but you need to know what you are doing there. It would allow you to keep all your current sensors likely.

Some shops charge huge money to reprogram ECUs for more power.

I have dreamed about trying a megasquirt conversion, but I think its another project that will sit in my file cabinet for a long time. heh

Does anyone know what the upgraded boxes do on a UTV? Timing/Advance? Injector pulse width? increased spark? multiple spark?

i know there are shops that will re-map an ecu for you, when i was considering a turbo on my scion that was one of the necessities, and there are shops that don't charge an arm and a leg when they already know the parameters of the vehicle and the tuning that has been done, when they know the "recipe" it's a slam dunk and not much money.

but where it starts to get expensive is when it's an oddball vehicle and they have to dyno it and map it as they go along. if you have a late model with the OBDII connection it may not be much trouble but i know from my days of drag racing any time on the dyno is expensive.

re-mapping the ECU is not the only part of it... if you want to see real gains in performance you should consider a free flowing intake & exhaust and larger injectors along with the remap. remember an engine i just a pump... get more in - get more out and you have more power.

just my $.01 worth (i'd give you two cents worth but the economy sucks!)

But where does the megasquirt get its signal from? I'm interested in the Squirt but it needs a reference on the crank for angle. Maybe the 3 triggers on the distributer shaft are enough?

What do the stock efi's on your trucks use for that?

    Megasquirt 3g83

I've experienced another sad sad moment with the minicab.

Decided to do some searching on the megasquirt forum. I typed in 3g83.... nothing. Not one stinking post (accept for mine).

Sometimes I ask myself why I keep choosing vehicles that require constant trail blazing. Aren't your machetes getting dull? I know my arm is getting tired of swinging.

I'm staring at another jungle with megasquirt. Here goes nothing....

    Wish me luck.

    BTW.

Will be using a EDIS-6 ignition system out of an early 90's ford. The trigger wheel (removed from Ford's crank) gives the EDIS a clean crank angle signal for the Megasquirt to process. Then the megasquirt sends the advanced or retarded signal back to the EDIS to fire the plug.

Now I just need to find the lucky ford.
