Taking away the free car forsale section pretty much killed everything there. Just bring it back... I know a few people would come back to the site if you had it, and the point right now is to expand the viewership. What do ya'll think??:pop:

While it is nice to have something for free. It cost money to operate everything. That includes this site. If people left because they could get something for free then why were they really here. Was it the love of mini's and the satisfactions you get from being in the company of other interesting people across North America and Canada. Or was it just to get something for free. I do not have anything to sell on here but have recently thought of contributing to the site. Probably will get that done in the nest week when I am off. Just my 2 cents.

I am all for free, but it does cost money to run the site. I can understand why they removed it. It is hard to regulate who is just peddling wares and who is just trying to sell their truck. It is not a fair deal for supporting members to pay to use the site as advertising and then allow someone else to do it for free...just my 2 cents

Yeah, this is getting ridiculous. I just got the "your in trouble, you need to pay" email from the moderator because I posted a thread looking for 2 trucks. If I was a supporting dealer on the site, I would be pissed because if anyone tries to ask for parts or trucks, they have to pay $15. Why am I advertising on the site if people can't ask about my inventory or parts. I'm not a supporting member, but the dealers that actaully do pay to run this site should be the ones making the decisions, not the "moderators".

Hi guys, I've been on here since November and just contributed to the cause...If you have been visiting this site for anytime then you should be very aware of how helpful it is....I'm sure it's worth $15.00...It's like taking a computer class..you learn how to type, post pic's, web surf, learn to be mechanically inclined....Make friends and share stories...All for the measly price of two Mcdonalds hamburger meals......WHAT A DEAL!!!
You can't ask for anything more...Right....P.S. I love this site and my mini...

I agree and have just added my $15.00 worth - Couple of Beers price is worth keeping the forum going, I may be the other side of the pond but the info on here really is priceless to any owner.

i wasn't the moderator that flagged that post but you were trying to trade your quads i think it was for one, so that kinda puts you in the category of "selling" something... but it also allows people to peddle their wares outside of the "for sale" section... knowhaddamean?

i'm a member of a couple other forums and have seen some pretty high prices to advertise... you guys should look at this

BTW, if you notice my title it says "supporting moderator" that's because even though my contributions as a moderator waive the fees necessary to become a "seller" i paid the "membership" fees just to make sure this great site continues to run. Kevin doesn't run this site to make a profit, but there is no reason he should do it at a loss either. my dad once told me "there's no such thing as a free lunch, son" and he was right! and really? what's 15 bucks anymore? you can spend that on a lunch for two people at McDonalds anymore... so pack your lunch a couple days at work and contribute :D

Here is an idea for the free loaders-add $15 to your asking price and stop complaining:frustration:

I should have complained when I paid my money, cause I paid in Canadian funds which probably cost me $18:rolleyes:

If $15 makes that much difference in your lifestyle, you probably should not be buying anything, and for sure you never could afford to buy one in the first place to be trying to resell it.

Chapest sponsor/supporting member dues around-Thanks minitrucktalk:)

Some people may be wanting to "sell" other than to make a "profit"

    Hahahahaha Good one Milt.

If he isnt running the site for profit, then he has FAR exceeded the costs to operate a site like this, and should reduce all the fees.

But he IS running the site for profit, as I run my business for profit. (Profit is not a dirty word)

With "free" moderators such as yourself basically managing the site, the hosting costs for a site like this are under $5 a month. If combined with other web projects, the hosting essentially would absorb into the main hosting plan. (With the costs being covered by other projects)

So, unless he is spending ungodly amounts of time maintaining the database, (Which I am sure he is not, the actual maintenance of a forum site on the server level is pretty minor) he is making a profit. Not a bad profit at that.

And, if its not for a profit, I will take over the site completely, cover all costs (completely out of my pocket) , and let everyone post for free.

Free for dealers, free for advertisers, free for individuals, free for the world.

BUT, since it IS for profit, I dont think he will hand it over for nothing.

    Lol

if you were to bring it back
and want to stop the people who come on here to sell it
    enforce a post count.

This point has come up on another forum im on
and one member brought up the point,
If theres paid membership/post count theres always going to be people that dont have the time to do both. But they have parts we may of never found to sell.

That was a poor explanation but i think you get my drift

MiniBrutes : I will be more than happy to send you my hosting bill. Its not $5 either. Don't know if you've messed around with vBulletin or not, but the $5 hosting doesn't work... unless you know someone that has a awesome non shared server for $5. We tried that in the beginning. Not sure if you were around when we was running this on a cheap hosting. When you get more than 25 people only at the same time, well that's about all it can handle. Then I started to get people complaining about we can't access the site. So I had to upgrade and switch hosting companies.

Also, if you want I will send you my Google Adwords bill, and a couple other advertisement bill I got. I use the money I get to advertise on other sites and ads to keep people coming to the site.

I don't quite understand. I'm a member of a couple web design/developer sites and I have to pay a monthly fee to get the information that want, but I don't mind because I like be part of the group. I don't go complaining about how it costs to do this and that, and tell the owner of the forum and sites how he should do this and that. Its really the people that want everything for free. Here at least you can read all the information you want.

And for the moderators that help the site and me. Don't worry about them, I'll reward them some how, I've been thinking about that for awhile now.

Really everyone that is complaining is complaining over a 1.25/month fee basically, to post a forsale post. Post it on ebay....oh wait they charge. Craigslist is free.

Well, you didn't say you weren't doing it for a profit! (This is the original statement from Milt. I never complained about paying to post for sale, but am just bringing up some points that if you are doing it right, you are bringing in more than going out.)

Man, you can get some wicked fast hosts for peanuts. I used to pump out a gig a day with hundreds of connections at a time on a $12 plan without issues. (On a shared server. I dont think minitrucktalk is sucking anywhere near a gig of bandwidth a day yet.)

All I was getting at is that you do run (or intend to run) it for profit. No more, No less. (And I also said profit is not a dirty word. There is nothing wrong with making dough) I just dont think Milt's statement is correct. Thats all.

And I guess, just about anyone could set up a similar site that is free. So, if they are complaining, then maybe that's what they should do.

I think kmoniel and mods are doing a great job for the money we spend here:D or do not spend here in the case of some members

If it is as cheap, easy, and profitable as some members think, then why are they not doing it as well:rolleyes:

Maybe a little less time trying to argue and piss of members, and more time spent helping and sharing ideas:frustration:
Get out and drive your trucks and remember why we all came here in the first place:cool:

I donate to all 4 of the Internet forums I frequent and spend about $100 a year to do so. It is a very small drop in the bucket compared to what I pay eBay & PayPal to sell my stuff and much less than what I pay Dish TV for what little I watch. eBay reaches a much wider market and makes sales easily for me (I have over 2000 transactions completed), but it is NOT cheap. Plus, I actually enjoy the forums more than the TV. That said, I have no issue with the fee structure here nor do I care what the Kevin does with what I send in. I don't have any immediate plan to sell anything here, but I do support the current fee structure and will continue to do so as long as I frequent the list.

As an aside, I will buy my accessories from the paying sponsors here whenever possible. I hope others do the same to make their site support fees pay off for them in profits.

Kevin, I agree with you. I am tired of grown men complaining about a few dollars just to post a sale ad. (especially on a site like this that is geared towards mini-trucks)

When I sold my previous mini-truck the dealer found me a buyer so I wouldn't have to go looking around and messing with people who weren't interested, etc. I was happy to pay them their cut ($500) so my truck would sell.

So what's $15 if it helps you find your target audience to sell your truck/parts?

Kids these days spend more than that on necklaces.

I put my money where my mouth is. I signed up for 2 years. Best money I will spend this year for the next 2 years. $25 that is what I spend on dinner for my wife and I out on the town. I am happy to help support the site. One of the best I have ever been on.
