Diff Lock & Axel Lock

My understanding is diff lock is the rear & axel lock is the front? my experience in off roading is that having both of these can make the difference between being pulled/winched or not. I have yet to try a mini truck off road but I would sure imagine that it could make a big difference?

What about hub locks? I'm a noob to all of this and would like to know what it all means.

I was hoping that someone could provide some feedback based on personal experience? Based on everything I have found on this forum, there isn't much discussion about locking differentials. I have a Yamaha Rhino that has the locking front diff. It isn't necessary 95% of the time but there are situations where it makes the difference.

all fourwheel drives are basically two wheel drive, one in the front and one in the rear. axle/diff locks lock the spider gears in the diffs making it a real 4x4. enter a ditch at a 45 and the rig wont go as soon as you twist the suspension, lock the diff and it will march right on. BS

Thanks. I am used to ATV's, at least the rear is always locked. Has anyone ever seen any aftermarket methods for locking front or rear on these? I have a Honda 450 Foreman that I installed a "Detroit Gearless Locker" on the front. Big difference in certain situations.

I have a '92 Suzi Carry, with Axel Lock. I just got this truck, however I understand it won't Axel Lock without being in 4x4...thats ok....but what axels does the push button actually lock up? I put mine in a twist, and I'm not sure it really locked the front or the back, but don't know if it isn't engaging, what to check. Thanks folks! PS I'm new to this forum, so don't beat up on me too bad! LOL

Thanks Tinytoy. Like I said, I'm new to this whole thing. When you mention about shifting to 4x4 on the fly...if you turn on the axel lock, then you can go with the lever into 4H then from 2H?
    Thanks...

With axle lock button lit up on my truck I can go from 2wd to 4x4 while moving
I push clutch to floor then pull lever up
    I have a 5spd so there is no 4hi/lo, just 2wd/ 4x4

Its the whole rear axle/diff unit
There is a guy here selling LSD kits (limited slip-not drugs) but i dont know if they have one for front diffs for suzies

Great info in your posts Tinytoy.

I think that you can get the LSD kit that [Allan ?] produces for any of the trucks, it's just that if he hasn't
done your year of a certain make then he requires you to send the diff [center section only] to him
so that he can size it up for your particulat application.

If you do a search on LSD the posts/ threads should show up, member Dan has done testing on them
    if I remember right.

Yup. The LSD kits seem like a decent value. We did do a difflock rear end swap though. Not a big deal at all, other than the 4WD controller that originally came with the truck would not activate the difflock. We put the controller in from the donor and all is well.

Difflock rear and LSD front would be fantastic i would imagine.

Alligator - you should be able to engage axle lock from a standstill. (in 2wd) It will not activate when in motion. Axle lock is basically automatic hubs.

You should notice the axle lock turns on when you engage 4wd. If you go back down to 2WD without shutting off the truck, the light should stay lit. Tiny is correct - As long as it is lit, you can generally shift back into 4wd on the fly.

If you hear lots of grinding when you do this, just pull harder. (Just kidding! Always use common sense when playing with this stuff while in motion. You could cause damage otherwise)
