I am the owner of the 1988 Daihatsu hijet that was featured on Pimp my Ride. i am considering selling it, if you are interested let me know. It will be hard to part with if I do sell it, but I have a baby on the way. If you think this is a hoax I will be more than happy to post pics of it that will prove that I am the owner.

Come on that is a great plate! I am interested in cash, or trades. I don't know what I want for the van yet, it isn't perfect by any means. However there is some value there. All of the TV's, dvd players, mp3 players, amps, speakers and camera are still in it. the only thing we sold was that POS guitar that it came with.

Did they do any engine work to it when it was on the show?

They called it cold air induction. I called it a fake K&N air filter from the auction. That was the extent of the engine work. my van only has 13k on the motor.

Fair enough. No engine work req'd with that low miles!
Is the speedo in mph or km/h?

Here's the problem with this kind of bling stuff. It's pretty much worthless to 99.9% of the public. I know I want a van. While I thought the episode was cool, I certainly would have no use for all of the electronics in it, and would pass your's by, in favor of a simply equipped, and much more functional basic one. I outgrew my desire for killing my hearing after I killed my hearing. Tinitus sucks.

I think you're going to find that you won't find a buyer interested in giving you much more than you would have gotten out of the van, had it simply had all of it's issues sorted out, without the glitz.

My guesstimation of the value of the van

A good running Hijet van, the same age as yours, and in excellent mechanical condition, to me would be worth something in the neighbourhood of $3,000 to $4,000. I paid $4300 for my 95 Hijet minitruck. The overall rarity of the van would help it some in value. If you're getting substantially more than this in offers, I'd jump on it.

Although Wolfman has some very good points....there are allot of people out there that will pay stupid money for things. I suggest you put it on ebay and make sure you highlight it was on the TV show....Oh and you need to get some better pictures of it.

I agree on the fact that people will pay stupid amounts of money on stuff, but you have to let them know it was on the TV show. Perhaps put a link to youtube with the show, and yea, you should probably take some more pics.
On a practical note, wolfman has it bang on, but you gotta love Ebay when it comes to unique items like yours.

    the pimp my ride rims

Yeah the rims on my hijet are 17" giovanni rims. West coast customs bought the wheels as blanks, meaning that they didn't have the holes machined in them yet. they machined the 4 x 110mm holes in them. I personally liked the 1st generation mazda rx7 rims with 185 75 r 13 on the back and 165r 13 on the front. The 17" rims create a lot of rotational mass that the hijet doesn't seem to have the brakes for.

  19. Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but how exactly was your HiJet made street legal to begin with

Just curious what kinda hoops you had to jump through...

Of course this van has some value and will appeal to some people because of its history. But if you are not a pimp, you may prefer a vehicle that is more go and less show.
